DrumBob May 20th, 2012, 09:46 PM After much research, stalling and contemplation, I finally broke down and bought a set of Guitar Fetish Dream 90s for my white Flying V. See pic below. I think they're going to look classy on the guitar, and I'm hoping they're going to sound like real P90s.
I couldn't justify spending tons of $$ on Duncans or Gibsons of the same design. The total was $77 and change with shipping.
Has anyone out there tried these out? If so, what did you think?
gitlvr May 21st, 2012, 11:55 AM Never tried them, but in nearly every discussion of GFS pickups, the Dream 90s generally come up. From what I've read here and elsewhere, they come highly recommended. Enjoy! I'll probably try them some day myself.
nickwort May 21st, 2012, 01:06 PM I have one in my Blacktop Jazzmaster. It sounds pretty close to a p90. Maybe slightly different, but close enough for me.
waparker4 May 21st, 2012, 01:15 PM I thought the mean 90's were closer to a real P90 in construction. But they don't come in pearly white, which is gonna look spectacular. I think you did good.
The Dream 180 bridge pickup is also pretty good.. gets that cool gretschy rockabilly tone.
kingjack May 21st, 2012, 01:48 PM never tried the dream 90's but i have a set of the retrotrons in one of my guitars and they are amazing. Also bought a set of minihumbuckers from them and they too sound really good. And for the price they cant be beat.
gfs puts out quality stuff at a cheap price, you should be happy with the dream 90's
blowtorch May 21st, 2012, 02:00 PM Dream 90s sound great, but nothing like P-90s IMO.
boneyguy May 21st, 2012, 02:11 PM I have a pair that I love but if you wanted a P90-like tone you probably should have got the Mean 90's. I think this has been discussed here a few times so I'm kinda surprised that you ordered the Dreams instead. The Dreams are a Strat style bobbin mounted inside a humbucker sized case. They don't really resemble a P90 at all. But they sound great in my semi-hollow.
I hope they work for you. I really dig mine.
DrumBob May 21st, 2012, 11:43 PM Well, I'll see what they sound like. After doing the research, I felt the Mean 90s might be a little too over the top for me. As long as the Dream 90s sound good and give me what I want, they'll stay. If not, they'll be replaced. I have played p90s that were wound too hot and didn't like them.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. Everybody has different concepts of tone and what they hear. All that really matters in the longrun is what I think of them.
Dan German May 22nd, 2012, 08:38 AM If nothing else, pearly white pickups in a white Flying V are going to look about as awesome as can be!
twiggymac May 22nd, 2012, 01:30 PM i have a mean 90 in the bridge of one of my guitars and boy does that sound sweet. i'm pretty sure the mean 90's are really like a strat pickup on steroids, whereas the mean 90 is more like a p90.
hey if you like them then by all means, play the living ****** out of em, and if you dont, the mean 90's will be waiting

Like I said, I'm going to try them. If they work out, great. If not, I'll try the others. At $77 I can afford to experiment.

I agree! That's one of the reasons I bought them. Let's face it: most of us are affected by what looks cool.
