I've never seen one like it. It's on a 1987 MIJ Squier strat. Any info? The owner called it a "Floyd Rose" but I don't think that's right. Kahler maybe? I know it says "Fender" but that doesn't help. :)

NICE! Thanks! Now I want one. This is a such a cool trem design. I wonder why Fender didn't stick with it? Seems like a winner.

Floyd Rose licenses the design to different makers ... so it's a Floyd ... by Schaller ... that says "Fender" on it ...

That may be true, but it corrects everything I hate about a typical Floyd Rose. It strings through the back, uses a real nut (no locking nut...a locking string retainer), and the fine tuners work great. Two knife-edge fulcrum points. Seems like a very solid design.

Thought that was a Kahler design. I had one on my MIJ Strat (Fender, not Squier) that was made in '85 or '86. In conjunction with the locking retainer behind the nut, it stayed in tune very, very well.

Yep looks like a Kahler Designed I have 3 '85 MIJs with that set up and they are great. Nice and solid too.

i'm no expert, but from the link posted above http://www.stratconnection.com/tremolosystem1bridges.htm n the 1980's at least three different tremolo units appeared on MIJ Contemporary Stratocasters. My understanding was that they were produced for Fender by the Kahler company BUT I've recently told by the GM of Kahler International that they were, in fact, produced by Schaller....

Everything I've read about these also points to the bridge being made for Fender by Schaller - I'm not sure that Kahler was doing anything besides their cam-style trems in 1985 when these first showed up on MIJ Fenders. Plus the string clamp device was the same as Schaller's string clamp as used by Schecter and EBMM at around that same time frame (1985-1986).
From what I remember they had issues with them failing so Fender eventually dropped these (they were called the System 1 if I'm remembering correctly). I have seen these replaced by owners with Kahler fulcrum trems, and I think Fender actually used the Kahler version that looked similar to the System 1 for a little while in 1987. I've even seen similar guitars to this with factory Kahler Spyder trems (the Spyder was a double locking trem under Floyd Rose patents that Fender also used on the HM Strats for several years).
