I have a body, a neck and a lot of ideas.

Well over the years I made plenty of SG-style guitars with my inspiration showing no signs of stopping me building more. I have made two new bodies using the Mahogany I had left from my previous builds which included one which wasn't wide enough to make an SG from so I added a strip of walnut in the middle.

As some of you who followed my building threads can recall, I tried unsuccessfully to build a 12 string SG with which I got the neck-body angle wrong making it impossible to put a bridge in the right place.

I have since salvaged the neck of that project and reshaped the headstock so I can make it into a normal six string neck. The neck itself is made from several left over pieces of maple with a birds eye maple fingerboard with a Gibson scale length and 24 frets.

So this is what I had in mind.

And here's what I have so far.

The idea comes from guitars like the Hamer Prototype, the Musicman Y2D Steve Morse model and the Ibanez Power series.

As it stands I'm planning to marry that single coil pickup with an old Ibanez Super 70 humbucker in a pickguard and a swimming pool rout (that way I can always change the pickup configuration if I want to), the big toggle switch is for changing pickups and the little one will either be a phase switch or a coil tap, I haven't made up my mind yet.

The tuners the neck currently has are Steinberger gearless which I love for the look but I'm not sure that I'll end up using those, since they're quite finicky.

I dig the mock-up with the Tortoiseshell a lot. It would be cool if the lighter strip behind the bridge stood out more like on an Alembic bass.

yeah, ditto on the tortoise shell mock up...(does that make it a mock turtle?)...but i digress. really digging the middle stripe, and i hope you keep it in the head stock. that birds eye neck is dazzling! keep posting pics with your progress.
