Picked this up on the local Craigslist. A friend of mine has one and I always have really enjoyed playing it. Very nice sounding strat even if it does not have top of the line electronics. It has a very heavy solid wood body and HSS pickups arrangement. Interestingly enough, it sounds killer through my old Fender M-80 amp, and is the only guitar that I own that I can say that about.
The sticker on the inside of the pickguard reads 07/04/90. Great neck on this guitar, and all in all, I am delighted to own my first strat of any kind.
Any love for the Squier II Stratocasters around here? Info on the made in India variety has been fairly sparse in my searches.

Congrats that's a cool guitar.
But please honor Victor Carroll Squier's name, it's Squier, not Squire.

That's because you can't see his horns beneath the hat.

S-Q-U-I-E-R. Dang it, I know better than that! I loathe spelling mistakes.
I was in high school when that guitar was built, but my son instantly took a liking to it. I let him have my MIM Duo-Sonic, so I guess he figures everything is fair game now.

Some of those old India made Squiers had insanely flamed necks.

True, and some good necks too. Great guitar and color.
I also think the duo-sonics are great for youngsters to start on.
Enjoy.

The Squier Strat really does have a fantastic neck, the kind that lets you know that you will purchase the guitar before even plugging it in. No flame on this one, but a great neck for sure. Does anyone know if a MIA or MIM Fender pickguard will fit this guitar? I read somewhere in the depths of the web that they would not. I would prefer to not have the humbucker, but I guess that just leaves open the possibility of purchasing another guitar, right? For $80, I think it was a good deal.
Here is the Duo Sonic, which I agree can be a good beginner guitar. My son likes the strat better even though it is full size because it has the body contours. The Duo Sonic is a little less comfortable to play.
