Tele build body weight

Hi, I am a newbie here. Been a lurker for some time and decided to get legal.

I have a parts strat that I made from a Warmoth body and neck; the rest of the parts are Callaham.

I am looking to build a tele now. I have had several Fenders down through the years, but I would like to build to my own specs, ie, fretboard radius, fret size, etc.

I would really like the tele to come in under 7 pounds as I like how these weights balance while sitting (and playing.) I have had a Nocaster in the past that was about 6.5 pounds and it balanced perfectly. (Unfortunately, I had to sell it. Bills, etc )

Assuming a C shaped neck (not a massive U profile) and traditional electronics and bridge, how light should I look for in a body to assure the finished weight is under 7 pounds?

W/r to wood, I used swamp ash on my strat and may do the same for my tele, though I'd love to find some lightweight alder.

Thanks for your help, and great to be aboard.....fantastic forum!

Neck and hardware will roughly add 3 lbs , so if you want it under 7lbs you need a body less than 4 lbs.

My Yardstick tele body came in a 3 lbs 9 oz and the total weight with neck and gear is 6 lbs 9 oz. so that sounds right.

I love light Teles! Wish they weren't so hard to find.

Same here. 111.3 ounces total, balance feels right, not neck heavy or neck light. It is a shock, when you're "testing" teles in the local Guitar Center or other music store, when all of a sudden, a light one pops up. Pleasant surprise.
