mulic3 May 17th, 2012, 08:45 PM Does anybody as any experience with that one, or some other distortion from the Joyo family? I'm thinking about buying it online (dirty cheap) in order to get some rougher distortion. I use a bad monkey, and like it very much, but sometimes it's not enough. When I'm home I'm using my amp overdrive for boost in solos, and I quite like it, but when I'm outside, using another amp I just don't like the overdrive channel and the bad monkey's just not enough. I tried the DS-1 with the bad monkey and hated it. I was looking also at Marshall's Guv'nor 2 \ Jackhammer pedals. I'm using a Marshall MG30DFX. (Truth is I used to hate the overdrive channel - but I guess I got used to it :)
Mad Kiwi May 17th, 2012, 08:54 PM Use your bad monkey in to a Marshal BB2. I tried the Jackhammer (horrible).
I use and LOVE the Ibanez TS7 into BB2 and consistantly find it to be a great sound.
The Bad Monkey is almost as good but not 'quite' there for me at least...but then i find the TS7 to have a little more magic than the Bad monkey even on it's own...
Just-Jim May 17th, 2012, 11:08 PM The Bad Monkey and Ultimate overdrive are about all I use. They cover all the bases for me. I have a Timmy, but still have not been able to figure out the best settings for me, so I go back to what I know.
JG806 May 18th, 2012, 12:18 AM I have the UD. Took it off my board for a few weeks. Put it back on tonight and it's staying!. Great dark dirty overdrive! I also have an OCD and a MXR Classic OD. I use the UD for heavier tones using a Tele with singles into Peavey Classic 30. I'm really happy with the UD. Thickens up single coils nicely.
mulic3 May 18th, 2012, 05:34 AM Thanks guys. Any thoughts about how it will perform with a solid state amp? Will I be able to get this pedal sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuRhaDrnlWo
I know I might be overreaching seeing that my amp ain't worth much. I just want a pedal that serve me on solos with better gain and sustain.
mulic3 May 18th, 2012, 05:41 AM What's with the Crunch Distortion?
paulo6 May 18th, 2012, 06:03 AM I have one and gig with it regularly. To my ears it can make my Vox Night Train sound like a Marshall and it's not a bad boost (bit noisy though). Also have the Classic Chorus.
Very pleased with both of them.
mulic3 May 18th, 2012, 08:44 AM Will the ultimate drive bring me more gain? Is it noticeably 'Gainier' then the Bad Monkey?

Yes the UD has plenty-o-gain on tap. I set my gain at 9 o'clock for my higher gain sounds.
eddie knuckles May 18th, 2012, 09:22 AM I have a lot of gain on tap with my UD. It is a nice pedal. Far nicer than what you pay for one. Nothing but happy on my end. Watch the gearmandude video when he reviews the Freakish Blues Alpha Drive vs the Joyo UD.

mulic3 May 18th, 2012, 09:25 AM Thanks. So you think it might be suitable as a lead solo pedal on a solid state amp? Cause the bad monkey just isn't enough for that stuff..
southwoodgtars May 18th, 2012, 11:19 AM I have nothing bad to say about the ud. Plenty of gain and to my ears seems a bit transparent. Which I think is a good thing.
studio1087 May 18th, 2012, 12:59 PM Will the ultimate drive bring me more gain? Is it noticeably 'Gainier' then the Bad Monkey?
UD = more gain - thicker - beefier than a Monkey.
I have both and I can't turn the gain on my UD beyond 10 o'clock because it gets too thick & chunky for me.
I have never owned an OCD but I've heard that there are similarities between the UD and the OCD.
TNO May 18th, 2012, 02:26 PM UD is the best deal out there for a good sounding drive box. The Vintage Overdrive is the only screamer I've ever really liked, it seems to have more openness than most.
mulic3 May 19th, 2012, 01:47 PM Thanks guys. Any idea how it'll perform with a solid state amp? As I said, I need it for soloing, and I'll use the bad monkey as a boost or the other way around. So, in your opinion, will the UD serve me well for soloing? Thanks!

Sounds great into a JC120!
mulic3 May 19th, 2012, 06:22 PM Thanks man. What kinds of sound can you get from it?
czech-one-2 May 20th, 2012, 04:33 AM Thanks man. What kinds of sound can you get from it?
Its pretty gainy so consider it a heavy blues/rock lead pedal. No low gain or scooped metal sounds here, just a great all around distortion with a nice, prominent low end that works well with clean, solid state amps. No 'tinny' highs either which also compliments a solid state amp.
mulic3 May 20th, 2012, 05:25 AM Thanks man. Much appreciated.
mulic3 May 21st, 2012, 07:19 AM Thanks a lot guys. I've just ordered one off Ebay. I'll write back as soon as I get it.
