Fender White Blonde?

I like the look of Fender White Blonde that the Classic 50's models are offered in. Its basically just a translucent white, with very little to no tan in the color.

Anyone know of a way to achieve this color with out a spray gun (i.e rattlecan)? ReRanch's Mary Kaye White looks pretty darn close, and I love his paints. Its so hard to tell from the tiny swatch on their website if it would look similar.

I'm GAS'ing to build a white blonde Jazz Bass with 70's style block inlay neck, and tortoise pickguard.

Reranch Mary Kaye White is the way to go.

Get a Preval sprayer at your hardware store ($6) and some white paint. Thin the paint down and spray away. Then clear coat, buff, etc.

Do a search on the RR forum, you'll find lots of pics.

If you can find Mohawk blonde toner, you get something like this

I had heard of the Preval sprayer but was thinking they look too good to be true for the price. I might pick one up though.

Pardon an ignorant question, but wouldn't I just get colortone white pigment and mix with some good lacquer from a pint or gallon? Doesn't seem like it would be easy to buy pigmented lacquer to thin it out....

The preval sprayers work surprisingly well & they're cheap too. Get some extra charges for it. As far as just adding white pigment to clear lacquer, you can do that, but it won't look like any fender white. You need to add a little umber to it & maybe a touch of blue depending on the white you're going for. Just get some mixol pigments & experiment.

Thanks. I had to do quite some digging but found a step by step post of someone mixing up an aged blonde finish with the Mixol dyes and it was a good read!

It seems like the whites / blondes / butterscotch color family should be fairly forgiving to some trial and error by mixing by hand, since there is so much variation in even what Fender put out, multiplied by the effects of age on those finishes. I ordered a Preval and some Watco lacquer, looking forward to trying it out.

Do you happen to have a link to that? I would love to read about it...

Don't think this is the same like and not sure how to post a link from my iPhone but if you go to my finish questions post Colt left a link that has a step by step process for butterscotch. Maybe this will help!
