Hi all, I have a question about my tuners. I put some new strings on recently and noticed the the pegs have a noticeable amount of play in them. I have a standard MIM from '07 that is still in fairly new condition. I didn't expect to be able to wiggle the posts around; is this normal or should I start looking for replacements? I don't have a lot of experience, but it seems to stay in tune fairly well, requiring slight adjustments to a few strings before practice.

You may just be able to tighten nut holding the tuner to the headstock.

When unstrung, the tuner shafts on my Sigma acoustic are fairly loose. I've become so used to it that I'm not sure what the ones on my Strat and Tele do. I'd say it's no big deal. That Sigma stays in tune regardless of how hard I play it, too.

Thanks guys. I guess the bottom line is if it stays in tune, don't worry about it :) Oh, I meant to add that I'll double check the nuts next time I change strings, but they seem tight now.

If you aren't 100% set on those die cast tuners, don't just crank harder on the hex nut.
The maple will crush some, if too tight, and it leaves a ring when you convert to (or try to convert) to vintage splits such as the Gotoh. Unsightly.
