The verse chords are easy. But what are the chords for the guitar solo and what are the chords for the chorus (you got the cure, you hold the key, you got the remedy).

Try figuring out chords to The Remedy by The Bandalfbell May 13th, 2012, 09:37 PM The verse chords are easy. But what are the chords for the guitar solo and what are the chords for the chorus (you got the cure, you hold the key, you got the remedy). jbmando May 13th, 2012, 10:01 PM Chorus: C Cdim F7 F F#G Bb B C Solo: Am D Dm F (F F#G) (G G# Am <This one could be F/A))(Bb B C) alfbell May 14th, 2012, 03:08 AM Hmmm... close, but I don't think it is totally accurate. I've got the chorus as: C Cdim F C (F F# G Bb B C) I think I've finally worked out the solo chords: Am D9 Dm F (and then chromatic ascent all the way back up to C) jbmando May 14th, 2012, 08:19 AM Oh it was a test. Hmmm. Not cool. I thought you wanted the chords. FWIW, I think mine are accurate. alfbell May 14th, 2012, 01:07 PM Not a test. I've just continued working on trying to figure it out since I made the post. Friend helping me as well. I think I've got the chords for solo right. That is a D9th. I've looked all over the internet and can only find the lyrics and not the chords. I went onto the composer's website, Jim Weider, and the info is not their either. I sent him an email asking him for the chords. Hopefully he'll answer. BTW that is a great solo on that song too. jbmando May 14th, 2012, 04:13 PM I listened to a live video from 1994 and that D didn't sound like a dominant. Besides, in a bluesy thing like this you can play dominants at will. Sounds like a straight D on the video. Suggestion - if you want some help, post a link to the audio you want help with. klasaine May 14th, 2012, 05:48 PM I listened to two versions. In the solo it's just a D triad, no 9th. You can play one if you want. *the rest of JB's changes sound pretty dead on it to me (as usual). If there's another version definitely link to it. alfbell May 14th, 2012, 09:40 PM It's the version on the Jericho CD. I don't have the equipment to transfer and post it as an audio file. alfbell May 14th, 2012, 09:45 PM try emailing weider. maybe he'll answer you. jwb@jimweider.com klasaine May 14th, 2012, 11:15 PM No D9 on the record (in the solo) either. It's not there man. It'll probably sound fine if you play it though. alfbell May 15th, 2012, 04:02 PM Got an email answer from Jim Weider himself... "in my solo i go to aminor then to d9 then dminor then to f then cromatic up to c , jim" I was right! Play those chords over the solo on the CD track and you'll see it sounds right. alfbell May 15th, 2012, 04:04 PM Next is to figure out his solo. It is VERY good with some nice bending nuances. Don't know what effects he is using but his tele sounds like a horn up in the high register. klasaine May 15th, 2012, 04:05 PM Coolio. Since he plays the solo I don't hear a D9 in the guitar rhythm (I streamed the album version on spotify) but if he says it's there - then I certainly will defer to him. jbmando May 15th, 2012, 04:17 PM The guy's playing a solo, so maybe he means he's playing the notes of a D9 chord over the changes. The YouTubes I watched don't have a D9 there. Whatever. I'm done. alfbell May 15th, 2012, 05:51 PM He's talking about chords to me. I'm going to listen to the track on my stereo and headphones so that I can hear as much as possible. Maybe there is a rhythm guitar playing behind the solo on the CD/studio version. Maybe it is the horns. I'm not sure where it is coming from but I hear that 9th flavor in there somewhere. It's the Major 2nd in the scale (played above the octave) which isn't usually played so you can hear it. I know I'm being nit-picky but that is the way I am. I try to totally duplicate anything that I figure out. I've got a buddy who is worse than me when it comes to this. He's like... "if you are not going to play it exactly as the original artist played it then don't play it". HA! You want to really develop your ear and ability to duplicate? Trying figuring out the stuff off of Trout Mask Replica. You may not believe it but most all of it is in standard tuning. I know this for certain because I knew some of the guitarists in the Magic Band and they told me so and showed me some of it. jbmando May 15th, 2012, 06:22 PM Never mind. alfbell May 15th, 2012, 07:34 PM The original Band were incredible. My next project will be to go back to their first 3 albums (Music From Big Pink, The Band, Stagefright) and figure out all the song structures and guitar. I have to get through this "Songwriting Secrets of The Beatles" book first which is really amazing and a great way to learn theory. oneeyedog June 11th, 2012, 02:44 PM I'm guessing you know of this great site.. http://theband.hiof.no/lyrics/index.html john gj169 June 13th, 2012, 09:23 PM Check out this tune by Blackie & the Rodeo Kings. Colin Linden wrote this song and he plays the solos in this band. He kicks ass on guitar and is a great slide player. They are some Canadian lads It's on the "Kings of Love" CD |
