Hey all,
I am currently setting up an outline for my new board which should be here next week. Super pumped.
Had a question though I have a couple boost pedals (MXR CAE -MC401 AND MICRO AMP) and wanted to get your guys' ideas as to where in the chain most of you place your boost pedals? Is it before the OD'S and Dirt or is it after? Let me know what you guys think.
I will have a few drives on my board and I have seen it placed in both spots but I was not sure what the correct placement is.
Thanks

If you are boosting your dirt pedals for more impact, put them after.
If you are trying to drive your dirt pedals harder, put the boost in front.

So if I want to bring up my leads up in the mix and send them soaring over the top, then after the dirt?

Yup. David Gilmour ran a boost pedal after his Big Muff because it raised the volume and allowed the fuzz to cut through.
Running a boost into dirt will cause the dirt pedal to clamp down and super saturated. Kinda like what happens when you run a boost into a distorted preamp of an amp, rather than in the effects loop.

I put mine dead last because I just want volume from it, not trying to drive a dirt pedal with it.

Use both you have. Pre and post drive. Best of both worlds.

I have a Keeley Katana clean boost that I put at the very and of my chain. After everything. Because I used it in the bars for a literal "Clean Boost". I wanted pretty much the same tone at a higher dB when I stepped on it for a solo. If you want a little more drive and a little more volume, try it before the overdrive pedal. If you're using a sensitive amp that overdrives pretty easily, the difference might not be as big.

My boost is near the end of my chain. The only things after it are a BBE Sonic Stomp and ISP Decimator. All I want my clean boost to do is give me more volume, typically for solos.

I usually put it before my OD pedal to goose up the volume and the amount of drive.
