Pearl amp?

Just back from visiting a friend who collects guitars and amps and he has an old Pearl SS-101 solid state amp from the '70s he got recently.
This one (http://www.adverts.ie/guitar-amps/old-pearl-250w-amp/1331914), I believe.

It's in its own flightcase, as in, built into it, and it weights a lot for the size of it.

Tried it out and I was amazed by how clear and warm it sounded. Very loud. It has a 'distortion' switch that sounds terrible, but played clean it sounded huge...and very good. Didn't feel like playing solid state.
We had a look inside and the speaker is a huge beast.

I'm going to get it from him in a couple of days and try it out for a while. I've been looking for a simple plug-in-and-play amp for 'down-market' gigs where I wouldn't want to take my 5E3 Deluxe, and if this works I might buy it from him.
Might try a lighter speaker in it.

So, does anybody here know anything about Pearl amps?

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

No. 250 watts is pretty brutal eh!

100watts RMS. The "250watts" is the power consumption.

Back in the 70s there were a few floating around Perth WA. Most looked for all the world like a SF Twin Reverb, but I remember one like the one in the photos, built into a roadcase.

Very clean, quite heavy for a SS amp, very loud, and a not-too-offensive sound. Probably make a great clean platform for a pedal geek, or an arsekicking pedal steel amp.
