hoodtube12 May 9th, 2012, 09:46 AM I just picked up a used Gotoh Modern Tele Bridge on Ebay for a really good price, but I have a question. The bridge has two screw holes above the bridge pup, 4 below. I've looked through pics and haven't seen any with this configuration. Is anyone here familiar with this? Thanks in advance.
PS.. I can't post pics b/c I haven't received it yet.
hoodtube12 May 9th, 2012, 10:11 AM 6 total screw holes...if that helps
boris bubbanov May 9th, 2012, 11:04 AM Those two top holes are not supposed to be there.

Question is, has someone added them or is this some other product?
hoodtube12 May 9th, 2012, 11:35 AM That's what I was afraid of. Thanks
hoodtube12 May 9th, 2012, 05:26 PM The seller seems like an honest guy...Nobody has ever heard of a Gotoh bridge in this configuration?
Novatuc May 9th, 2012, 06:33 PM I have two different models of the modern, GTC201 and GTC 202. The actual difference is only the saddle material but neither have the upper holes. If the bridge plate is magnetic it is not a Gotoh.

+1
But, who was your vendor on the Gotoh with the brass saddles?
I hadn't figured out where to get those.
Much obliged.
Novatuc May 10th, 2012, 10:06 AM Got the brass saddle bridge from Stew Mac. I am assuming the saddles are brass because they are not magnetic.
tiskit86 May 10th, 2012, 10:13 AM Maybe you were sold the GFS copy.

Bartholomew3 May 10th, 2012, 10:16 AM I also installed GOTOH from stewmac - it's chrome plated brass.
Seems more "ringy" with that chrome plate than my old badass 6 saddle brass with no plating - not really the same sound dry but seems the same through an amp.
hoodtube12 May 10th, 2012, 02:04 PM UPDATE...I received the bridge today and I have made a few observations. 1. The bridge is heavy. 2. The two holes at the top of the bridge were drilled by the previous owner, and weren't drilled very cleanly. 3. In those drilled holes, I can see what looks like brass where the chrome was removed.
I tried the magnet test, and the magnet stuck very lightly to the bridge plate. Wouldn't the chrome plating add some magnetic qualities? I'd like to be sure what this is before I file a claim with Ebay. Thanks
Here are some pics.
AndyLowry May 11th, 2012, 10:48 PM Chromium is magnetic.
I'm scratchin' my head over here, trying to figure out what the holes were drilled for. Maybe it was used as a necklace pendant. :)
Chet Johnson May 11th, 2012, 11:01 PM Some cork sniffers think that the bridge plate can oscillate if not screwed in the front.
That is definitely a gotoh bridge, and the inside if those two holes are brass, drilled after market.
Not the end of the world. Just put two tuning machine screws in those holes.
boris bubbanov May 11th, 2012, 11:09 PM If you have a small scale, check to see what it weighs.
I think a Gotoh GTC 202 should be eight ounces, which is heavy.
The other common 6 saddle is the Fender MIM Standard bridge - much lighter in weight.
Bridges can feed back if not secured in some instances, but not one this beefy. The top holes are surplus, IMO.
hoodtube12 May 12th, 2012, 09:57 AM I don't have a scale, but I do have a MIM Standard bridge that I compared the new bridge against. This new bridge is significantly heavier. I'm convinced at this point that it is Gotoh. Now I'm curious if the sadddles are brass plated w/ chrome, or just steel. Is there any way to tell w/o weighing them? I'm guessing no.
AndyLowry May 12th, 2012, 11:01 AM The photos of the extra holes indicate brass. I guess it could be gold, though-- does it weigh five pounds? :)

Not 5 pounds, lol. Although it would be nice to have a bridge that's worth more than the guitar itself.
braderrick May 12th, 2012, 03:07 PM Welcome fellow UK fan. I love Gotoh bridges and have used them in several guitars. I just bought a black one for a new partscaster project. Stewmac claims the saddles are brass too so... Chrome plated brass bridge with chrome plated brass saddles I guess.

is that bridge any good?
boris bubbanov June 1st, 2012, 08:41 PM is that bridge any good?
That would be for some middle to lower price Squiers, and some other, cheaper guitars.
The through holes will not be located where they are on the Gotoh, and the 3 mount holes at the bottom (and probably the 2 at the top) don't align with anything on the Gotoh bridge or any USA model Tele I've ever heard of.
I understand the bridge linked above is from the same plants that manufacture the parts for these cheap import models and is of the same quality - not an upgrade.
