misterbluesman May 9th, 2012, 12:55 AM Why hello fellow pluckers! I've finally saved enough to purchase an engagement ring free and clear and was somehow able to control my amp GAS throughout that period. However, now that's it's paid off, and I've recently picked up a second part time job for summer, I'm finally going to be able to treat myself and relieve some gas! I was pretty set on a vox AC15C1 throughout my waiting period but now I'm also looking at the Egnater Rebel 20. I understand it's personal preference but if anyone has both, or just a strong opinion on one or the other, I'd be glad to hear it! OR is there another amp I should be really looking into? I love the mix of blues and rock (SRV), but I occasionally get a honkering to play some hard rock and some jazz on the other end of the spectrum as well. Help me cure my GAS!
eno55 May 9th, 2012, 11:03 AM Hello, I have had both, The vox was nice and I liked it alot and it worked good with pedals ,the vox do not have alot of gain so if your style of music needs alot of gain you will have to get an distortion pedal,Also if you get the vox get the model with alinco blue ,it's sounds nice, and the vox is on the heavy side, not to bad...
The egnater rebel 20 ,I have the head and cab version that i use, plenty of gain and you can choke it down with the power knob from 1 watt to 20,I think it's a great amp ,I wish i had got the combo version,it would be easy to haul around ,but I have done gigs where the club had a 4-12 cab and all I took was the head, talk about a killer sound man run that rebel head thru a 4-12 marshall or orange cab WOW!!!
If I were you and could find a music store that had both and play them everyone ear is different. both are cool amps you just have to treat them different...

if you are looking for versatility then the egnater is the way to go. you will cover more territory with that amp than the vox. the vox will give you a smaller spectrum of tones, although its a great sounding amp.

RaistMagus May 11th, 2012, 07:07 AM The Vox will give you the 'Vox sound'. Smaller spectrum of tones, allright, but with more distinctive character.
homesick345 May 11th, 2012, 08:06 AM Neither. Orange Dual Terror. It impressed me thru & thru, & I'm an old vintage & boutqiue fart. What I heard on the clips & demos is nothing short of amazing, clean & drive...check out this little marvel.
donnyboy July 1st, 2012, 02:48 PM for any one looking at the rebel 20: you will find a need to "up" the bass response due to the small coupling cap values.plus redo the tone stack wiring so you have a typical fender tone stack...with bass mid treb full cut...no mid/bass bleed through.
just modded my friends' and it sounds great. could put a boost switch (easy).
Nate @ Egnater also in formed me that 6L6s could be used if you re-bias..have to change 1 resistor though...thats easy too
Paleus July 1st, 2012, 03:13 PM You should check out the Tweaker too.
tazzboy July 1st, 2012, 03:39 PM Vox AC 15
bunny 7 July 1st, 2012, 04:03 PM Seems to me the OP bought the AC 15 C1.

ScottJPatrick July 1st, 2012, 04:10 PM I've tried both and they are both great amps but if you can hang on a bit longer and go for the Rebel 30 combo you will get everything available from the other two plus a lot more besides.
ScottJPatrick July 1st, 2012, 04:12 PM Damn, caught out by donnyboy resurrecting an old thread, need to look more closely next time!
misterbluesman July 1st, 2012, 05:22 PM Haha yes the ac15 won out. I got it for a ridiculous price ($363 on MusiciansFriend), so that kinda pushed it through :) it's still awesome, although I do sometimes wish I had that fender clean sound. Great amp though!

Pardon me asking, but how did you get an AC15 at that ridiculous price?

It was used in "good" condition. The only thing wrong with it that I can find is one of the bottom corners has a small crack in it. I kept feeling like one day I was going to find a huge flaw, but I never did.

Very nice. I'm currently GASing for one, but I need another amp like I need a hole in the head.

I'm right there with ya. I've been drooling over some tweed bassmans lately. But unless someone basically drops one at my door, I think I'll save up for a Martin next ;)
