caferacer May 6th, 2012, 11:45 AM does anyone know of a TELE pickup ID chart?
I have too many pickups and no way of knowing what they came out of
all I know is they are fender, I have no idea if they are MIM (except for the ceramic ones) USA, tex mex, highway 1, etc
I thought it would be a nice idea to start an ID thread for all the various TELE pickups with pictures front and back
(unless someone has already done that)

literally impossible - SO many variations even within the same brand and model. besides, it would really prove nothing of any real value.
caferacer May 7th, 2012, 05:44 PM it would prove invaluable in identifying odd fender tele pickups, now wouldn't it????????
very valuable in my opinion, and Fender only made so many variations of the TELE pickup so hardly an impossible task, in fact I am sure there are those here who can ID a tele pickup at the drop of a hat
Rob DiStefano May 7th, 2012, 05:58 PM far too many variations within the pups themselves, as fender ownership changed ownership more than a few times. their single coil pups have essentially "vintage" vulcanized fiberboard and "modern" plastic bobbin builds, yet the magnets and coil wire are pretty much the the same but lotsa variations to the turn counts. the vintage builds are easiest to understand and reproduce, and - imho - offer the best range of "fender" tones. don't need to know more than that, imo.

It certainly would. I don't think it's as easy a job as you think, though. When you get done with that chart, a guide to Fender colors and finishes crossreferenced to DuPont, SW, and Duplicolor would be nice, too.

sacizob May 7th, 2012, 07:21 PM I would love to see someone make up a chart. Even if some pups were "either/ors".
