Since I started my band a few years ago, I have been constantly experimenting with different guitars from my collection, some I still own and some that have been sold. Over the last three gigs, I have come to the conclusion that my Tokai LS-85 Love Rock Les Paul replica, my Squier Classic Vibe Tele, the Rickenbacker 330-12, and my '95 MIJ Strat for Open G tuning, are the best guitars for live work. I also bring the new Yamaha acoustic/electric for a few songs if it's a lower volume gig.
All these guitars play great, sound just dandy, and most important, they stay in tune all night.
I love my P90 guitars and my Jazzmaster, but they buzz and hum. I'm a Les Paul Junior guy and have been forever. I tried a few others that wouldn't stay in tune, and they've all be sold. Everything I own now plays great, but the guitars I mentioned above seem to work the best.
If I want to play slide, I'll throw the Teisco/Kingston in the car.
I think all the experimentation is finally over.
