Have three pedals running on battery, if I leave them connected to each other but without having the guitar lead or the lead to the amp connected, will the batteries still drain? Do they all need to be totally disconnected each time?

The one in the middle will definately drain the battery.

On the others, it depends on if the battery shut-off is on the "in" or the "out" jack.

If the pedals have an "on" led you can check by stepping on them.

If the light comes on, yes the battery is still connected and draining.

The standard for many, many years is that inserting a mono plug into the input jack will switch on the battery. The answer is that two of the three pedals will be "on".One solution is to insert 2.1mm battery eliminator plugs in the eliminator jacks when you´re not playing. They will break the connection from the batterys plus pole.Hence,no drain.
