Just what can you get for $45? Here's what I found!

If you're like me, you start browsing the classifieds around 4:30, to see if there is anything worth picking up on the way home. Here is my latest $45 purchase in all its glory!

For starters, the only thing I know about the brand Series 10 is what I found in a 5 min google search, but at the price I figured if the neck was straight it would totally be worth it. Not only is the neck straight, the body is also in pretty decent condition. As you can see, at some point the pickups were swapped out, and whoever did it wasn't too precise on their routing... I have no clue what the year is, although several of the sources I found said that Series 10's that have straight up copies of trademarked headstocks are from the 70's, pre-lawsuits. Based on the condition, I seriously doubt this is older than the early to mid 90's...

I'm hoping to tear it appart tonight and see if I can found out manufacturing info, dates, what the pickups are, etc. I plugged it in for a few minutes last night, and it seems pretty decent, but really needs a new input jack, so I may add one of those tonight.

Let me know what you think of my $45 find, and let me know if you know anything about Series 10's.

It looks like the S-1 that was given to a friend of mine. The S-1 was a Samick product I learnrd from a google search. You should have a good project bass on your hands. Take care. Bob

Great find, at that price it's hard to go wrong.

Series 10 was an import brand owned by St. Louis Music, most were made in the 80s and 90s. SLM also owned Crate, Ampeg and Alvarez for years until they sold off their music divison a few years ago.

Not a bad budget bass for the money when new, definitely worth more than you paid for it as long as it's in decent shape.

Nice find. I've had couple of series 10 guitars, mainly used stuff that would come through Baton Music (in STL), when I worked there, a long time ago.

So I opened the Series 10 up over the weekend. I can't find any marks identifying the manufacture date or local. I did figure out the reason it cut out. Whoever put the new pickups in it didn't solder them in, they simply twisted and taped the connections. I have gone ahead and replaced the pots and jack, and hope to reassemble it this week.

IIRC these were all Korean. The SLM brand name was originally Bentley for acoustics and electrics, then they changed the name of the electrics to Series 10. Dates are roughly early 80s to late 90s.
