Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz Opinionsasatbender May 4th, 2012, 10:36 AM Looking for a fuzz around $50 to play some Black Keys tunes. I like the fact that it seems to be versatile. opinions? smoss469 May 4th, 2012, 10:48 AM I don't know if it gets in the BK range. Dan uses (mainly) a Green Russian Muff. For a little more money, you can get a Biyang Fuzz Star fuzz. It's closely based on a Big Muff and might be a better option. Chiogtr4x May 4th, 2012, 11:24 AM I had a used one (from CL) for a few days and just did not care for it at all. I guess I was expecting more dynamics (or any!) from the guitar volume, and despite the Tone Filter selector- I just did not find a sound I could use tlimbert65 May 4th, 2012, 12:37 PM I have one. I'm not a huge fuzz guy, but my understanding is that it's basically a FuzzFace clone with different EQs on the different Tweak knob positions. The further you move the knob to the right, the heavier and darker it gets. I have fun with it, usually on the second or third Tweak setting, with the gain at about 3:00. One thing I've found is that it does not like buffered pedals ahead of it in the chain. It sounds much better if you can put it first in your chain, or at least have true-bypass pedals ahead of it. ChipOnly May 4th, 2012, 12:57 PM Yup, fuzzface with selectable tone caps or something (tweak). So placement is an issue. Another issue is relatively weak output. There's a fairly simple mod to give it more volume - most folks have to dime the output just to get unity. It's not bad sounding as a fuzz, but for not too much more IMO you can do better (biyang fuzz star = muff, danelectro french toast = foxx tone machine), unless you just really want a fuzzface and don't mind the size, or modding/diming output. They were blowing them out at mf.com a year or so ago for $30 or $40 bucks I think - there should be a bunch floating around out there on ebay and craigslist for that price still...so $50 sounds kinda high actually. There are a couple really great and underrated pedals in the seymour duncan line but the Tweak Fuzz is not one of them IMO. . Daddy Hojo May 4th, 2012, 01:00 PM Bass big muff is the ehx tribute to the Russian muff. It gets mighty close and it has more options. You gotta have some bottom end to get Black Keys sound. You may also try building a Bazz Fuss pedal. It's ridiculously simple, but is very close to a big muff. Most of the parts are available at Radio Shack. Look online to find some schematics as there are a few variations. smoss469 May 4th, 2012, 01:19 PM You may also try building a Bazz Fuss pedal. Isn't that basically what JHS sells as their Mini Foot Fuzz? Essentially this? http://www.forrestwhitesides.com/files/up/img/layouts/bazz_fuss_eyelet.jpg Another version here: http://www.home-wrecker.com/bazz.html jeb stuart May 4th, 2012, 01:41 PM Bass big muff is the ehx tribute to the Russian muff. Jason G May 11th, 2012, 03:10 PM I like the Tweak Fuzz! Maybe cause I did get it blown out for around $30. But I liked it immediately and it has grown on me more ever since!! It can be finicky mixing with other OD pedals... on its own I have had absolutely NO problems with unity gain. ??? In fact I can get a good volume boost with it... tho not a clean boost. If anything, it has mainly given me a huge appetite for more/better fuzz pedals!! But is keeping me happy at the moment! Especially into a slightly clipping tube amp.. very nice!!:grin: tlimbert65 May 11th, 2012, 04:51 PM I like the Tweak Fuzz! Maybe cause I did get it blown out for around $30. Was pleasantly surprised with it, and I have a lot of fun with it. It takes up a lot of board space, but it's built like a tank. Put it as early in your chain as possible, no buffered pedals ahead of it, and run humbuckers into it. WaylonFan76 May 11th, 2012, 04:58 PM I bought one years ago for 1 song I needed to play live. I did not care for it. Sold it recently. There's so many fuzzes on the market, I'd get another if I were you. JMO Lance May 12th, 2012, 08:04 AM Not a good pedal. I tried one in the store years ago and was appalled at how terrible it sounded. Skip. |
