Old Has Been May 3rd, 2012, 10:00 PM I think I got an okay deal. What do you think?
Went by my local music store the other day and saw a Fender '59 Bassman Reissue. It looked brand new. In fact, I thought it was, but the manager said it belonged to a kid that used to work in the shop. The kid played a couple gigs with it and decided it was too heavy to keep lugging around from practice to gigs to practice to home, etc. Figured he could get by with something smaller. And, frankly, he was strapped for cash.
Today, I went by the shop again. Just had a Telecaster with me (no bass), and plugged into the Bassman. Golly, it sounded sweet. The kid originally wanted $800 for it, but I offered $700 cash. He took it.
I went on-line and about the cheapest I could find new was $999.99. This thing doesn't have a blemish on it.
Did I do okay?
kydog May 3rd, 2012, 10:30 PM I think you did just fine. How does it sound and how about a pic ?
scantron81 May 3rd, 2012, 10:31 PM You bet! Post some pics of the amp & tele!
JTM45blues May 3rd, 2012, 10:54 PM Tele through a tweed bassman is my main tone. I personally use a Vicky 45410. Add a little clean boost and a slap back delay and you can cover a lot of ground. I personally use a Zvex SHO and an Aqua Puss delay... Of course one of my other faves is running my Fulltone TTE into the Bassman.

Does the tweed add that much...?
bradpdx May 3rd, 2012, 11:33 PM I don't own one, but I borrowed one for a gig a few years back. It was terrific - enjoy!
Gringo13 May 4th, 2012, 12:27 AM Congrats! Seems like a good deal to me... now let the mods begin! Haha. My current rig is Tele-Tuner-Bassman and it's the best tone I've ever had alt country and rock n roll. Don't be afraid to try some different preamp combinations. Also, you can dial in so many awesome tones with the tone stack set in random positions. Have fun!
Which speakers are in yours? The blue or green?
thinling May 4th, 2012, 01:17 AM Great! I think they come with a solid-state plug-in rectifier, which you can switch to a tube like the originals. I think you're going to enjoy it.

The earlier RI's were solid state rec and ply cabs and the LTDs are tube recs and pine cabs. I've heard some great sounding earlier RI's, but for my taste the rec tubes are an important part of the tweed sound. I run a 5r4 rec and love it.
Leep Dog May 4th, 2012, 10:14 AM Sounds like a good deal to me, I'd love to have one of those amps.
willspear May 4th, 2012, 10:23 AM Congrats on the bassman
the reissues (both) sound great and snagging a great specimen for 700 is excellent.
Id recommend swapping a 12ay7 into v1 to see if you like it. stock on the reissue is 3x 12ax7 the change is more period correct and makes a pretty big change in tonality. I dig it
again congrats on the sweet gigging machine

+1 on changing to a 12ay7 and also a 5AR4 for the recto tube if it doesn't already have one.
SoK66 May 4th, 2012, 11:22 AM Best bargain in a Fender tube amp. Good score!
brick396 August 7th, 2012, 03:01 PM Dude, that's a great deal. Bought mine new for $1300 in 2009. Love it, beautiful amp. Do wish it had verb or trem......sooooo just ordered a Strymon Flint, can't wait. Strymon builds incredible pedals, I own their El Capistan, tape echo, fantastic. Here's the link for the Flint, check out the white paper they did to research and form the basis for their designs. Incredible...http://www.strymon.net/products/flint/
musicmatty August 7th, 2012, 03:12 PM Think this was a Bogus Post..hit n' run  The OP, never followed back up with a post..I find this a bit strange
stantheman August 8th, 2012, 12:24 AM I've had the Re-Issue.
Sold it cheap too.
Got a Weber 5E7 Bandmaster instead.
Smartest thing I ever did.
Thank You's all around to Joe Walsh and Pete Townsend and Mandy Marie.
I'm sure the Bassman sounds decent though, I kept mine for 15 years.
Problem was I also owned a '56 Champ and never felt satisfied with the Bassman.
SoK66 August 8th, 2012, 12:30 AM Bassman RI may be the best bargain in a traditional amp. Good pick!
