2 point tremolo - saddles height question

Hi !

I need adjust the action on my new Strat because the saddles are
too low but maxed out. I don't want to shim at all... The relief is
perfectly fine at .007" and the frets are leveled and crowned.

My options for now are longer saddles screws but before
I place an order for screws, can I just move up the complete
bridge assembly with both tremolo pivot screws ? It's an
American Standard bridge... All I need is 1/64" or 1/32"
higher...

I like the trem to float by the way...

Thanks for your help !

Philippe

Yes, you can back those pivot screws out a bit. The change you make at the bridge will be twice the change in action at the 12th fret. So if you need to raise the 12th fret action 1/64", you need raise the bridge 1/32".

+1. If your saddles are already arranged to follow the arc of the fretboard radius, then you should be able to make your action height adjustments using the two main pivot screws (I'd turn them both the same amount each time).

Dan Erlewine's book, How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great, has a sidebar about instructions that the designer of the Am. Std Strat bridge wanted to use, but apparently Fender never put it in their instruction manual or Mr. Gearhead tips. He recommended setting the relative heights of the saddles to follow the arc, then leaving the individual saddle height screws alone and use the pivot screws to adjust the height of the entire bridge plate.

I just place my order for that book...
Thanks for the tip... I lift the bridge
and everything sounds fine...
