So, I watch American Idol last night and River Deep,Mountain High was a featured song. Went to youtube and watched the real deal Tina belt it out. Went to wiki for the song and OMG the things you never knew.

One of the listed Studio Personnel is a woman named Carol Kaye.

Never heard of her, right? You have, I , 100% guarantee it.

Please buckle your seat belts before you go to her Library section. Amazing!!

I've always made it a point to study and know about
music history etc. Books, magazines (Guitar Player being
a prime source) documentaries etc.

All that to say, I've know about Carol Kaye since I
was a kid. The Wrecking Crew's story really ought to be told.
I hope Tommy Tedesco's son gets his Wrecking Crew
documentary released.

I used to work with Carol Kaye's son, Peter back in the mid 80s. Nice guy, haven't seen him in years. I remember him telling me his mom plays bass. I thought about it for a minute, hmmm...Kaye....mom....bass... WOW, is your mom Carol Kaye? "Yep" he said, mater-of-factly. She was THE go-to studio bass player in the 60s here in L.A. Played on bazillions of hit records.

Here's a link to a book about the Crew...

...the author was here a few months ago on a speaking/signing tour, he shared a bunch of tales not in the book.

Larry Knechtel's son lives up here, quite an accomplished player himself and a nice guy to boot.

+1 Carol Kaye and her Jazz Bass played with a pick. Read many of her GP articles back in the day.
