Question when using multiple delays

How do you choose wich one goes in the pedal chain first ? I have an MXR Carbon Copy, but I'm getting a Boss DD-3 this weekend. Wich one goes first in the chain, digital or analog, or do you determine the first one by the dealy time you set ? I'll most likely use the DD-3 for slapback and the CC for longer delays. This may be a stupid question, but any help would be appreciated.

It really doesn't matter. I'd think the CC would be better for slapback and the Boss would be better for longer delays, but that's just me. I'd have the CC first if it were on my board.

I put the one I step on more closest to my foot. For me it was slap 1st then longer delay. But you change things around based on whether the input level is being overloaded, or whether you need a buffered output, etc. I'd say DD3-CC. The CC you would likely use for longer delays because of the choral modulation.

I'd do slap first then long delay. With a long delay first you can get odd/inconsistent repeats if you're using slower decay rates.

Also, just personal preference, but +1 to trying the CC for slap and DD3 for longer delays. I find that thicker/warbler delays really help beef up a slap tone, while longer delays benefit from a cleaner/brighter effect ... Helps then fill in the sound without getting muddy or lost.

I'm very glad you started this thread jebbo as I am in the exaxt same situation. I have an mxr carbon copy that I use for an analog delay, but want to add a digital delay, probably a boss as they look good value wise. I'm looking to do this so that I can create multilayered sounds emulating some shoegazer bands that I love from the early 90s. What playing style are you personally going for by adding the second delay?

I want the DD-3 for slapback simply because I don't realy like the slapback sounds from the CC. Don't get me wrong, it's great for it but it isn't the sound I'm looking for. The DD-3 has crisp clean repeats wich in my mind is good for slapback. The CC has that warm analog tone, so it fades out with that warm sound. That sounds good for long delays. You do't realy get the analog effect if you use it for slapback. Based on what you guys said, I think I'll have the DD-3 before the CC. One thing I absolutely hate about the CC is the adapter jack. My pedal chain is Dunlop GCB95, Boss TU-3 Tuner, Boss DF-2 MIJ, Keeley SD-1, MXR CC. I would normaly have my CE-2 on the board, but it's broke. I also have a reverb on/off switch on my board. With that order the CC is at the top of the board. I have to wrap the cable around the pedal into the input jack because the adapter is in the way. If I have it last in the chain, I can just use a 6 in. cable from the DD-3 to the CC. It sounds confusing, but just look at the pic of my board.
