hemingway May 3rd, 2012, 11:49 AM Following on from the thread about artists you love but are heartily sick of, how about celebrating the ones you still enjoy hearing after, say, 20 or 30 years?
I'm going to start with Dr Feelgood. You'd think that music that simple might get boring pretty quickly. But it's honest, no BS, and downright good.

Such an elegantly perfect style.
I've listened to him on and off for years but recently bought a complete box set on CD for my truck and i've fallen in love again.
He's the Vermeer of guitar soloists.

I have lots of other favorites as well, but these are probably the ones I've listened to for the longest time.
AirBagTester May 3rd, 2012, 03:07 PM The Stones
The Meters
Those are the only 2 I can think of where I absolutely never think to myself, "this again?" (which I know is weird WRT the Rolling Stones, but maybe it's just because they have so many albums I like...)
ac15 May 3rd, 2012, 03:23 PM There are several I'm sure, but Black Sabbath comes immediately to mind.
They were the first band that I was blown away enough by to actually start buying their records. Up until then I didn't really own LP's - only 45's. Of course it didn't hurt that the first record of theirs that I heard was also their best - "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath."
blowtorch May 3rd, 2012, 03:25 PM I'll also add Elvis and the Stray Cats
McGlamRock May 3rd, 2012, 03:34 PM Steely Dan- their music is very eclectic, I can always find something I like

I expect Steely Dan are going to join that list soon. Despite my profound adoration for the artists above, they all put their name to the occasional song I think is pretty crap, like 'Mr. Moonlight', 'All My Love' or 'We Gotta Live Together'; with Steely Dan, the quality control is higher than almost any other group I can think of.

from a young punk johnny rotten to an older "statesman" of rock..
I love his measured drawl... his choice of words in interviews.. his attitude to the industry that spawned him....
there's always that glint of mischief in his eyes... and a sharpness to his wit that makes me smile still... a knowing...
