Here's how we do it. The kick is shown first, starting on 2. The D FM7 BbM7 A7 is like the Nightlife kick. We use it between verses 1 and 2, as shown. m7 is minor seventh chord and M7 means major seventh chord. I think I have it right so there is a / for every beat a chord is repeated.

Cold Cold War – D

1234 1D#dim// Em7/// A7/// DM7/FM7/ BbM7/ A7/

1. D/D7/ G/Gm/ D/Em7/ F#m7/Fm7/ Em7/// A7/// DM7/FM7/ BbM7/A7/

2. D/D7/ G/Gm/ D/Em7/ F#m7/Fm7/ Em7/// A7/// D/G/ D/// to bridge

Bridge: D7/// D7/// G/// G/// B7/// B7/// E7/// A7///

Glad to help. One of my favorite tunes to play. Let me know if you want suggestions on chord forms or anything.

when you say D/Em7 for example... you mean D to Em7th or Em7th with a D bass note?

No. All the /s mean a beat repeating the last chord.

So D/Em7/ F#m7/Fm7/ Em7/// means:

D D Em7 Em7 F#m7 F#m7 Fm7 Fm7 Em7 Em7 Em7 Em7,

which I play all dowstrokes; one downstroke per chord as I have written in out in full.

I had this on my home computer, if you're having trouble figuring out the chord chart I posted.

Cold Cold War

The [D] sun goes down and [G] leaves me [Gm] sad and [D] blue [Em7 F#m7 Fm7]
The old Iron [Em7] Curtain falls on [A7] this cold war with [DM7] you [FM7 BbM7 A7]
[D]You won't speak and [G] I won't [Gm]speak it's [D]true [Em7 F#m7 Fm7]
Two stubborn [Em7] people with a [A7] cold war to go [D] through [G D]

[D7]Why oh why does love ever come to [G] couples like you and me
Whose [B7] cold cold wars are never won and whose [E7] hearts just can't be [A7] free

So [D] lets do right or [G] let's just[Gm] say we’re [D] through [Em7 F#m7 Fm7]
I just can't [Em7] stand another [A7] cold, cold war with [D] you

Yes. I'll post you some forms after work, or in the morning.

I usually play this with the D chord up around the 10th fret, although I usually think that it is a little high up there. Here's the kick chords, and I use that Em7 form for the F#m7 and Fm7 at the 14th and 13 fret respectively for the "Stormy Monday" chords in the verse.

D#dim Em7 A7
---------------
-10----12--10--
-11----12--12--
-10----12--11--
---------------
-11----12--12—

DM7 FM7 BbM7 A7
-----------------
-10--13---10--10-
-11--14---10--12-
-11--14---12--11-
----------13-----
-10--13-------12-

For the D D7 G Gm, you can use the regular bar chords. I use these:

D D7 G Gm
-----------------
-10------12--12--
-11--11----------
-----10--9---8---
-12--------------
-10--10--10--10—

Then the D Em7 F#m7 Fm7 etc. using the appropriate forms above.

To end the verse, the D and G forms used above. For the bridge, the D and D7 form used above, and on the G, since it is of fairly long duration, I put a little motion in it with a vamp move:

G / GM7 / G6 / / /
-------------------
-----------8-------
-12--11----9--------
-9---9-----9--------
--------------------
-10--10----10--------

For the B7 and E7 these, and then walk up from the A7 back to the D chord at the 10th fret:

B7 E7
-------
----5--
-8--7--
-7--6--
-------
-7--7--

A7 G Cdim A7
¬-----------------
--------7-----8--
-7---7--8-----9--
-5---5--7-----7--
-----------------
-5---7--8-----9--

I know there are some tab errors in there I haven't caught, but I haven't caught them. I'll do some forms for playing a little lower on the neck tomorrow.

Here's chord forms for playing it down a little further.

Here's the kick, Nightlife turnaround and first chords on the verse:

D#dim Em7 A7
---------------
-7------8-------
-5------7---6-----
-7------5---5-----
-6------7--------
------------5---

DM7 FM7 BbM7 A7
-----------------
-7---10--6-------
-6---9---7----6--
-7---10--7----5--
-5---8-----------
---------6----5--

D D7 G Gm
--------3---2--
-3--3---3---3--
-2--5---4---3--
-4--4---5---5--
-5------5---5--
----5---3---3--

For the D Em7 F#m7 Fm7 chords, I would use one of these forms:

D Em7
-------------
-3---8--------
-2---7--------
-4---5----------
-5---7----------
-------------

D Em7
-----7--------
-7---8--------
-7---7--------
-7---9----------
-5---7----------
-------------

On the bridge, the D and D7 above, and for the G/ GM7/ G6/// on the long G chord (Micky Baker, Book One, by the way):

G GM7 G6
-3---------
-3--3---3--
-4--4---4--
-5--4---2--
-5---------
-3--3---3--

Then that same B7 E7 and A7 walk up like I showed in the previous post:

B7 E7
-------
----5--
-8--7--
-7--6--
-------
-7--7--

A7 G Cdim A7
¬-----------------
--------7-----8--
-7---7--8-----9--
-5---5--7-----7--
-----------------
-5---7--8-----9--

I first heard that song played over the credits of the cult film classic "The Atomic Cafe." Has been one of my favorites ever since.
