Not your typical lacquer repair job...

In that my guitar has a "satin" finish. I have a Martin OM-1 that I play a lot, and it has acquired a few scratches and one small ding. I'd like to touch it up and keep it looking nice. I called Martin and they said the finish is "Catalyzed Lacquer".

I have some Rustoleum clear lacquer (spray), and some Deft Clear wood finish (brush on). Which of these would you guys recommend?

Could I just wet a Q-tip with some lacquer, fill the ding and the scratches, and then blend it in with some 0000 steel wool?

Personally, I'd just keep it clean. I use a product from Gibson called Gibson Pump Polish. Funny name, but I use it to clean my acoustic. It has a couple of dings, but that just adds to the character. If you try to spot repair, it might end up looking worse...
