nickwort May 1st, 2012, 06:22 PM I found this today. Ummm...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIBSON-SG-SPECIAL-GUITAR-1965-VERY-VERY-BIZARRE-AS-IS-/251048843446?pt=Guitar&hash=item3a73ad58b6
telequacktastic May 1st, 2012, 06:27 PM that is so sad
Strat62 May 1st, 2012, 06:49 PM Definite hippie influence. I once knew a player back then that had a '56 strat with very similar body design, although it was done better than that one. Still......
Nick JD May 1st, 2012, 07:37 PM People always seem to forget that these guitars were worth squat back when they were "modified".
B.G. May 1st, 2012, 10:38 PM I guess that wouldn't help the dreaded SG "neck dive" any.
syrynx May 1st, 2012, 11:20 PM B.G., that was my first thought.
My second thought was that, with an extension nut, it might be a good lap steel. I certainly wouldn't pay US$500 for it, though.
kylejf90 May 1st, 2012, 11:29 PM owch...that made me cringe
ROADMAN May 1st, 2012, 11:38 PM I'd guess it was damaged and the remains carved into what is before us....must have been a Canadian hippie that did it ...upside down it looks like a Beaver eh..

DrumBob May 1st, 2012, 11:49 PM From the back, it looks like a whale profile.
It also looks like something John Mayall would play.
smallstoner May 2nd, 2012, 02:02 AM 500 bucks? I wouldn't pay 50 for that monstrosity.
Woody Duke May 2nd, 2012, 02:45 AM Bet you can park a big doob in that "butt crack."
Dan German May 2nd, 2012, 11:05 AM People always seem to forget that these guitars were worth squat back when they were "modified".
Ain't that the truth.
Anyway, it's not like someone cut up a good-looking guitar!
*ducks and runs*
IB62 May 2nd, 2012, 11:10 AM Perhaps it survived Mr Townsend - and thats all that was left
charlie chitlin May 2nd, 2012, 03:16 PM This is why good ones are as valuable as they are!
Bulldog87 May 2nd, 2012, 03:32 PM that is disgusting!

Thought I'd post this for posterity, once the auction's down. I don't have anything else to say about it.
PapaLion May 2nd, 2012, 03:42 PM What "hippy period"? 1965 was a plain ol' regular year... now '69-70... a totally 'nother story. anything coulda' happened even the mangling of a Gibson.
Dwills94 May 2nd, 2012, 04:28 PM id buy that for 50 bucks at a garage sale for kicks and giggles or just have it as a conversation starter but 500?! theres no way

But in 69-70, '65 SGs were cheap and plentiful.
Cheap enough that you wouldn't feel too bad about carving one into a goofy shape while stoned.
Blazer May 2nd, 2012, 06:47 PM It reminds me of the guitar that the guitarist in this Dutch Ska band played.

john kleeman May 3rd, 2012, 12:19 AM It looks like Prince's "cloud guitar" with E.D. .
Nick JD May 3rd, 2012, 12:52 AM I'd be tempted to buy it, cut the "mods" off square, glue in some 'hog blocks, route to the correct shape and paint it black.
I wouldn't mind a '65 SG in black.
