Here's my 2009 EG440SC. Solid spruce top, NEX body shape. Great guitar, especially for the price.

Haven't played that specific model, but I have played one of the other G Series NEX Taks, the GS430S, the one with the string through bridge.

Sexy shape, sweet player, nice tones from that solid cedar top. And at $300, I was sorely tempted to take it home. But I need another acoustic (as opposed to an acoustic/electric) like I need another hole in my head, and if I had brought home another acoustic, that's probably what I would've gotten!

Anyone else seen the article, "Takamine Turns 50" in the August 2012 Acoustic Guitar? Written by Adam Perlmutter? Good story.

It's my main gig acoustic. Sounds great through any PA and some amps, tolerates beer and being dropped on stone floors..........

I just looked through the old thread and noticed you had asked about the Nato sides and back. I don't know if you ever got an answer, but Nato is also known as eastern mahogany. It is not the same as traditional mahogany, but similar. I looked it up on wikipedia once myself.

The tone on that 430s gets better with age. I have had mine for about five years. Good slide tone too. When I bought it the punk salesman kept trying to talk me into the Taylor dred, with the goofy neck that has wood screws. The Taylor was about $200 more. He must have thought I was low I.Q. I knew exactly what I wanted, and why.

The cedar top still smells sweet too.

Anybody replace the tuners? I would like to upgrade, but don't want to drill anything, or have any holes showing.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking up specs on another guitar recently, and it referred to the sides & back on that one as "Nato Mahogany." I guess I'll go to Wikipedia myself and do some reading.

I had one of the black Steve Wariner signature models years ago but I sold it and bought the Gibson J200 I have now. Sure wish I would've kept it and bought the the Gibson as well. In my opinion for live stage work, their electronics can't be beat.

The tone on the one I played was great. That's exciting to think about it improving with age.

That's funny about the salespunk pushing the Taylor. He wouldn't have gotten very far with me either with that kind of approach. The voicing of Taylors has never been to my liking.

Sweet looking Takamines. That lawsuit dred gets to me. My kid brother had a lawsuit dred in the 1970s, which was stolen in the 80s.

I have a lawsuit F307, D00018 sorta guitar. 1973. Nice for the $100 I paid for it. It has an ajustable bridge and is plywood all around but it still sounds good and shakes in your lap when you play it.

Sorry it is sideways???!

Lunchie, what about that Takamine classical? Is it a standard body (as in depth, as in not a thinline)? Is the neck standard for classicals, as in 2" width at the nut? the top looks like cedar; is it?

John, I can't quite figure out what I'm seeing as far as that room goes. It looks as though it's a room with a very low ceiling, and the guitars fill the walls from floor to ceiling. That can't be right, but it looks unusual to me.

I just asked my wife her opinion and I think she helped me see it right. There's some kind of wainscoting/paneling to the room, right? Sorry for my weird perspective, but first glance looked like either a room with a low ceiling or giant guitars on the wall.

Mine is Santa Fe '96.
Had to do a few refrets, and changed the capacitors in the pre-amp.
Really sounds incredible, and the neck is just like taken from an electric guitar.
I simply love it.

Which model in the Santa Fe series is that? Specs?

Mine is a lower end EG model, but it sings like a bird. I find it works best with Elixir 12's, really fills up the room with sound. With the piezo it also sounds great either running through a PA or through my Ibanez TA35 acoustic amp.

Not exactly sure. The tag when I bought it just said EAN10C, but the label inside the sound hole says CX. Maybe refers to an X bracing?

Cool. A '96, you say, that came to Romania from Canada. Does that mean that you are not the original owner? Or did you buy it from Canada in 1996?

It's hard to tell from the pics. What are the inlays on the fretboard?

And is that a pin-less, string-through bridge? I really like those.

Has been bought by a friend of mine, already on SH from Canada. Came to me not in a happy condition. Had to refret, the pre-amp stopped working because of the caps, some scratches, and so on. Worked on, so now is as new, incredible sound on electric, not so full, but still rich un-amplified. The neck is incredible, every single friend of mine loved it.
Martin strings on. Tried D'Addario, good as well, but Martin sound fuller. Inlays are eagles...
