Sgt. Pepper's fuzz

Anybody know what Fuzz/distortion and guitar/amp combo George was using for that first into that song?
I just pulled out my SPLHCB CD this weekend and was (as usual upon first listening) blown away by that nasty tone! George gets the same tone several other times throughout the album, but none as pronounced as THAT lick!!! There is that nasty punch lick in "Good Morning" toward the end break...
George Harrison rocks my socks.

Help me out here...I'm getting a Fuzz-jones in a bad way!

I do believe that fuzz sound is Paul playing his Esquire through a very stressed-out Selmer amp, no pedal.

I GOTTA start using the "search" function more often!
Thanks for the link to that thread Blackkeysfan.

Seems like a lot of different opinion/facts on the specific tone and who/what generated it. Those pix the Billy posted are truly great!
I have to agree regardless that who/what did that wicked intro lick in "SPLHCB" did the same in "Good Morning". The tone and the attack is just too close.
I love all the Beatles each for different reasons, but I will feel let down if Paul copped those licks and not George!
(is that wrong? )
