purpletele April 28th, 2012, 05:41 PM I couldn't pass up a good deal. I've also had Mustangs on my mind for a while (not to mention since I was 18)
It's a 65' with new pups and electronics, new tuners, a refin and a refret. I have maybe $400 in it. I could have done worse and been happy. It's a GREAT Mustang.

ValliereSB April 28th, 2012, 06:21 PM Very nice! Congrats. I had a 65 mustang, but paid 1300 for it (in 2004).
Rod Parsons April 28th, 2012, 06:42 PM I have a '66 Mustang that my X got for me in 1974... I played that thing 'till 1992, when I got a '91 American Standard Tele... It has been hanging on a wall for 21 years. I refinished the body years ago, as it came with a flat black spray- over and 'day-glow' stickers.. It was my only guitar for 19 years and I put 500,000 miles on it... Now that this thread has made me think about it, I'm gonna' get it down and spruce it up. It has the "original frets". Those frets HAD to be WAY WAY BETTER FRETS than what they are using today.. I played it a LOT and the strings never buzzed. It sounded really really good.... Nothing on it ever broke... I assume it will work when I plug it in again.... That's a really nice Mustang that you have... I love that color... Mine was originally white, and I refinished it white...
purpletele April 28th, 2012, 08:33 PM Thanks. It's an ok refinish, but I'll probably refinish it properly at some point. There is some white showing in some places that makes me think the blue was just an overspray on the original finish. The blue is getting the job done for anyway.
beep.click April 28th, 2012, 08:42 PM That's great; just think of the songs that have been played on that baby. Somebody was probably jamming along to Sergeant Pepper, the day it came out...
purpletele April 28th, 2012, 09:42 PM Yeah, that's what I dig about vintage gear, the history. That's way cooler to me than collectibility or possible monetary value.
purpletele April 29th, 2012, 10:59 AM I took some better pics this morning.
After a few playing hours I'm definitely still digging this thing. Kind of strat-y but fatter. The switches are unique, but I dig what they do. The last time I touched a Mustang I was probably 14 so they (like everything else)confused the heck out of me then.
Definitely an underrated guitar.

I see that you live in or are from Morgantown West Va. I did one year at WVU and married a local girl from there. We lived there for a couple years. She bought my Mustang in Morgantown. She and I went our own ways but I still have the Mustang. Did you buy yous there. ? I wonder if our guitars are cousins ? Ha ha ha!

No, it's from San Antonio. I just moved here from Morgantown in January. That would have been cool though !
purpletele April 29th, 2012, 02:49 PM A couple more.
It looks like the only unoriginal parts are the frets, the finish, and the bridge pickup.
