Face plate help

Friends,
To those who have made their own, or did a custom order, how can I make a faceplate?
Do I print something out and put it under plexi?
Do I paint a strip of metal and seal it?
Is there a company that does it?
I like DIY solutions, but a company link would be helpful too.
Thanks!

Mojotone has a create your own logo service, what I've seen from their website it looks really good.
Depending on what type of equipment you have at home you could go several ways.
on a blank faceplate, you can have Kinko's print your logo and lettering on decal paper, then put the decal on your blank and cover it with urethane. The same with a plexiglass face plate.
Putting your own logo on your builds is probably the coolest thing you can do to give it the most professional look.

I would use waterslide decal paper. I made these labels that way, filling in the backside with white paint so it would show up on black. I didn't clear over it but with a few layers of clearcoat and then a nice buffing it would look sharp.

Can you explain how you did the white lettering more...clear or white decal paper etc.

Thanks

I used transparent decal paper. I printed the lettering out in reverse, so on screen it looked like a black box with my white labels on it.

Then I printed it out on the transparent paper.

Then I soaked it, and flipped it over. Let it dry.

Then I filled in the lettering with a white paint marker.
You don't have to be precise. It's all blacked out on top, right, so I just roughly filled in the general area behind the lettering.

Then I let that dry.

Then soaked it and applied it to the enclosure. This one was plastic.

Never clear coated it, but that would make it all look much nicer. You wouldn't see the outlines of the decal if you did a nice lacquer job.

Later on I used the same method for a customer who wanted fine white lettering on his black headstock...

I just found an old photo I took of the pipe-down decals before I flipped them back over.

Here is a "peek behind the curtain"...

Wouldn't white water slide laser decal paper work better. This way you would not have to paint the white on the reverse side. Just a thought, I don't know if this would work, have not tried it myself.

Yup. That would do it. BUT, I don't have it!

Plus, this give you option of doing any color you can find in paint. Gold, Silver, etc. etc.
If you know you're going with white, then yes, white paper would do it.
