been wanting to do this for a long time....finally got up the nerve to give it a shot.

ordered an unfinished body from GFS, and bought a neck and pickguard off ebay...all the hardware is being mined from an Austin tele copy i had sitting around.

the bridge i have is a top-loader so no drilling for string ferrules

first big question: will the neck fit the pocket?

Hallelujah!!

this may work out:

i love the look of natural wood, so i'm going to hit the body with a light stain to bring out some grain, then a coat of shellac. i don't want to use poly on it.

i'll post more picks as i go along. wish me luck

I've just started mine - but there's not much I can do till the BODY TURNS UP!!

Slightly impatient, sorry.

Look forward to seeing how it goes.

Is it me or does it look like you have some serious fit / compatability issues? Your pickguard is practically hanging over the bridge pickup rout, assuming you have it positioned tight to the neck / neck pocket.

it isn't positioned tight to the neck, just laid it on there for the picture. however, since the body doesn't have that trough cut from the neck pickup toward the control plate...i've been thinking of just getting a pickup ring for the neck pickup

You have a 3 ply pick guard there, make sure there is enough room for the pick guard relative to the neck, since it's a 22 fret neck. Otherwise, there may some modifications needed.
