Big_Bend April 25th, 2012, 10:15 PM I'm in a band that plays a variety of old country, classic rock, and Texas music. I'm looking for more country sounding songs that people can dance to, but would prefer more songs written by rock artists.
Here is Credence Clearwater Revival doing Looking For A Reason.
jsDISxlP_5U
The Rolling Stones doing Sweet Virginia

After that I'm at a bit of a loss. Any other rocking bands you know that had some country sounding danceable songs?
Thx for suggestions...

Pointmonger April 25th, 2012, 10:44 PM The Knitters, which was essentially "X" with Dave Alvin and Jonny Ray Bartel added to the mix, released one of my favorite country albums "Poor Little Critter on the Road" back around '85. That album goes hard. Highly recommended.

"Country Honk" is actually the original version of "Honky Tonk Women". Mick Taylor came up with the arrangement that became a hit.

Absolutely! Didn't Garth Brooks cover this one?

First Paul Stanley wrote it for Rod Stewart who stupidly didn't take it so Peter Criss, drummer of KISS, sang it and made it yet another hit ballad behind "Beth". Garth took the song to the charts many years later. It's just a good song which, unlike most KISS songs, can be translated into almost any style. It was pretty much a great song with hit status for anybody who did it.

I didn't know "Me and My Uncle", (http://youtu.be/-cCZFUj8IlM) was written by John Phillips (http://www.allmusic.com/song/jack-of-diamonds-me-and-my-uncle-t10674862) of the Mamas and Papas.
Had that album on 8 track! Was my favorite song on the album. Surprised when I looked the songwriter up in AllMusic to find John Phillips.
