9 weeks ago I custom ordered a G&L ASAT Classic Custom.

This is built to my exact specs.

Yes I even asked for the knot in the wood on the body...

The pictures tell half the tale, it's much prettier in person.

Out of the box, Perfection. You could have gone straight to the gig and played it.

Pickups were setup and balance to each other.

Nut was cut flawless.

Came with 10's, Dadarrio if that matters to anyone.

The volume and tone knobs operate very smooth.

The knobs themselves have alot grip to them, you can feel it grip your fingers..

Case was a beautiful G&G case that only fits one body style.

The case itself smells like cotton candy.

Paper work all in order.

You get a custom build spec sheet.

Warranty card

And a certificate hand signed.. by Phillis Fender.. how cool is that Leo's wife signs your paperwork..

I play an AV62RI Tele mostly and have never laid hands on a C&L that nice...but that is a beauty and very cool you could get it right down to the knot.

Wow! beautiful.
I did not know that G & L was in Fullerton and - Leo Fender's wife?
Is this a similar story to Gibson & Heritage?
I know Fender moved from Fullerton to Scottsdale some years ago. You could see the place as you passed the north end of the Scottsdale Air Park from Bell Road......

Mr. Harvey that is one fine example of a musical instrument. From your description sound like the Plek machine lives up to the hype. Couple questions if you don't mind. What neck shape did you order? My other question is how did the ordering process go? I know you have to go through a dealer, but do they walk you through it and understand all the options or just have you fill out the order form?

Ol Redneck,
G&L isn't quite like Gibson and Heritage. Leo sold FMIC to the CBS corp. in the 60's. As part of the deal he couldn't build for a significant period. When that was up, he and George Fullerton openned G&L (George & Leo) in Fullerton. Supposedly, Leo finally got the chance to perfect his designs. IMHO, he would've always kept tinkering to make them better. Personally, I can't wait till I can afford to order my own custom G&L.

Ledoux,

Yes I was walked through the ordering process. I was also kept up to.date on the status.

Oh man, that's a stunner!

Very, very nice.

Not to derail the thread but I have a question. What options do you get bridge wise when ordering a custom G&L?

Will they put a standard three saddle on there for you?

Only cause he wishes he was as cool as me... LOL

And to answer the question.

The neck is a vintage C, 7 1/2 radius with vintage frets.

You'd have to talk to your G&L dealer. I know I wanted 6 saddle bridge.

Gorgeous. The made to order G & L's are hard top beat.

I really dig the knot too.

Reminds me of the Gretsch Knotty Pine Round Ups, which I think are one of the best looking guitars they've ever made.

Beautiful. How many Tributes is that worth?

It was very reasonably priced. When you consider it was a custom build it makes it even a better value.

I'll say your going to pay more for a 52 reissue than what I paid for this.

Amazing! Love the knot. Good call on that. Just adds character. I just recently got my first ASAT and was blown away. I couldn't even imagine a custom order.

Cheers!
