Deluxe Memory Boy Issues - Buzzing/Weird Repeats

Ok so I got my new EHX Deluxe Memory Boy today and I started messing with it as soon as I got it. For the first 10 minutes it was sounding fine. Then I noticed a buzzing sound along with a white noise sound on the repeats. The buzz is kind of a high pitched and metallic, almost like something is rattling at a high frequency. It is more noticeable the longer the delay time. Does anyone know what's up with this? Is this how it's supposed to sound?

Honestly, it doesn't sound like its working. EHX has quality control issues to say the least. I would exchange it for another one.

Yeah I'm gonna call up Sweetwater today and get it taken care of. I'm just making sure I haven't changed it to some weird setting or something.

Welcome to the noisy buzzy hummy world of EHX...

I've only owned 3 EHX pedals but I've never had 1 that had noise issues.

I have owned probably 3 or 4 and had some noise issues with some of them. Particularly you hear complaints about the Nano sized ones a lot.

I had a Double Muff that, to me, was both noisy and useless. The Worm XO, depending on where you put it in the chain, if I remember right.

This makes me a little nervous though, because the EHX DMB pedal is one I've wanted for a long, long time. Tell me how the replacement sounds.

I'll update for sure when I get my replacement. It's not that it was particularly noisy when engaged. It's the long repeats that get progressively more treble heavy and buzzy and have this wuffy fuzzy sound along with the note.

I'm optimistic that the replacement will sound fantastic, because I have played one before that was ace.

So I got a replacement and it has the same exact issue. I guess I'm just out 188 bucks. My bad.

That sucks Adam. I assume you've checked your cables and are using the provided power source?

(I also have never had any noise probs with EHX)

If it's the pedal, return it again. $188 is a lot o' bones!

You can return it if your not satisfied. They will refund you the money or exchange it and get a better delay like the Carbon Copy, Akai Headrush, TC elctronics Flashback Delay, Vox Time Machine, Visual Sound V3 Tap Delay, or the BBE Two Timer, which all costs less than the Memory Boy

Just discovered the EH DMB and was excited about the features, but now I'm worried about the quality control. The thing is DMB had great features and was priced well. Is there another analog delay with tap tempo that has an effects loop that is also under 200 USD?

I had the regular Memory Boy and it had the same issue with the long repeats. I returned it and got the Ekko 616. It sounds great but doesn't have the ability to have such long repeats. But realistically, really long repeats are not necessary. I was hoping to use them for practicing, so I could hear myself without concentrating on playing simultaneously, but no such luck.

buying EHX is like buying a guitar... you can play 50 of the same model that suck.. then pick up another and it's jimi hendrix incarnate

I realize this thread is quite old now, but I'm having the same issue with mine. Incredibly lo-fi, grainy, bit-reduced high end noise on the delay tails that I didn't notice before. I contacted EHX just now and I'm awaiting a response, but has anyone else run into this issue, or the OP get this fixed or figure out the problem? This, along with my tap being finicky and semi-unresponsive are starting to really upset me because I was really happy with this pedal for a while.

... Incredibly lo-fi, grainy, bit-reduced high end noise on the delay tails ...

Is it at all possible that your DMB is working as designed?

Your description sounds exactly the way I'd expect an analog delay pedal to sound, especially at longer repeat times and more repeats.

If you want clean repeats, you'll be much better off with a digital delay.

No I realize it's suppose to be analog, I know the sound. It's why I got it in the first place. This is different. It's something I haven't heard before, there's an out of place artifact on TOP of the already analog sounding trails. Screechy almost.

Oh. That's not good. :(

I noticed that sound happens to mine when I tap slower than the delay knob will allow.
