Here she is, freshly unboxed and in the back yard for some pics in natural sunlight. The guitar is gorgeous, especially compared to my plain ol' Highway One Tele. Only complaints are what looks like a lot of puddled poly in the control cavities (see pic) and the nut may need some work as I heard done pinging while tuning up. More comments to come as I spend time playing :-)

Congrats. I love black guitars.
Think my local shop has one, maybe need to check it out soon.

Initial impressions...

Playability is different than my Tele. The scale is more along the lines of a Gibson, and I like the flatter 12" radius. My Tele is a Hwy 1 and has huge frets, and I like the medium jumbos on the Gretsch a bit more.

The guitar is light! It's probably about the same weight as my Tele, maybe 7.5 pounds. Feels great to hold and play.

Fit and finish are very good, with the exception of the nut needing some work. There are some tooling marks on the neck binding but nothing major. The control cavities have some sloppy poly in them that should have been cleaned out if they really cared about their work.

Action is good out of the box and it's well intonated with just a few tweaks at the bridge.

My Tele has a satin finished neck. The Gretsch neck is poly and feels sticky and slow compared to my Tele. Maybe I can smooth this out with some steel wool?

I love the sound, it has all the chime of my Tele (which has OV's) but with more thump on the low end, and more balls with dirt. Like a Tele, but fuller? Maybe halfway between a Tele and a Les Paul? Sounds great through my PRRI.

It's a nice guitar for the money and I think I'll bond with it just fine.

Beautiful looking guitar. I especially love how those pickups look. I'd love to get a set that nice to stick in my new guitar when I get it next week.

Man, that looks purdier'n a twunny dollar whore.

I love Gretsch - they look so much more downright beautiful than Les Pauls. When I win the lottery I'm getting a White Penguin. It's just a matter of time . . .
