converting ac to dc to power an led strip

I was considering using a 12volt dc led strip to light the inside of an amp that I'm working on... kinda a back lighting thing. Light would shine through some grills on the head. Can I power it from the 6.3 v ac somehow? I'm positive I can, but am unsure of the procedure. Any insight? I've looked around and can't seem to find the right answer for what I want to do.

you don't need to convert, the diodes will light with AC current, they only conduct for half a cycle, so they pulse at 60hz. That annoys some people (like me) and not others (you know who you are, you strange people). The 12v string on 6v power is a problem. 6 volts is likely not high enough to bias the string into conduction. You could make parallel strings of 3 diodes each with limit resistors.
