pondcaster April 25th, 2012, 08:06 AM Those 3 magic words: OUT FOR DELIVERY.
This was one of those late Saturday night, killin' time on eBay, checking to see if any sellers wanted to take Best Offers on a few amps and Voilą!,... I got a used stock Pro Junior for $150 ($25 s/h). It's on the big brown truck and heading to my humble abode. Will be there when I get home from work!
I've heard so many great reviews on them, here & abroad, so I'm pretty psyched. The seller states in the listing "The amp really starts to overdrive with the volume set at three to four, may be a tube problem or a speaker problem, and it may be nothing, but it still sounds great, I always liked the quick overdrive." so it may need some work on it when it arrives? Hard to tell if that isn't the way PJrs are normally?
Anyhoo, pics & a (hopefully glowing) review when I get home tonight. Or tomorrow morning most likely. Any advice or suggestions on tubes and the like is greatly appreciated
bbmyers April 25th, 2012, 09:10 AM OFD BAY-BE !! Gotta love that feeling. Awesome, enjoy it. I've been kicking around Blues Jr's for a few weeks looking for a good deal. Same thing as the Pro Jr I think sans 'verb.
Post pics, sound clips.

Yep, hope this work day goes quick! My blonde BJr has been my #1 amp for the last couple of years, really love that amp.
Hoping I'll be equally as impressed by the PJr!
Stubee April 25th, 2012, 10:51 AM That early overdrive sounds about normal for a PJ within limits.
Great amps, different than a BJr. Good price!
electrablue April 25th, 2012, 11:49 AM Congrats!

I'm tickled pink about the price, I've rarely seen them go for less? I read a bunch of reviews that basically said that their overdrive started around 4... so was hoping that the seller's description was normal PJr behavior.
Almost lunch time, that means only 3.5 hrs to go before I can head home!
Bodeen April 25th, 2012, 12:36 PM Big congrats! Luvs me some PJ. Turn the volume up some, put a little bit of overdrive in front and you've got a little seething monster on your hands...glorious tone. Enjoy.
pondcaster April 25th, 2012, 07:30 PM Just got her warmed up and all i've got to say is wow. All my favorite tones are right there, easy to dial in. I've heard some people call the PJr a "one trick pony" & that may be the case, too early to tell for me. Initial impression is that she's got a bunch more up her sleeve than that. One thing I can say from just putting her through the paces in the last 30 minutes with my RW50. I know next to nothing about amps compared to someone who does but I do know what I like. And the PJr has got it. Clean as a whistle. And growling at the turn of a knob. And the knobs are tight but smooth. And there's only 2. MIA! Best $175 (w/ship) I've spent in a while... okay, back to see what the LP Smartwood sounds like plugged in...!
acalan April 25th, 2012, 07:42 PM Congratulations on your new amp. I had one delivered today too..I found a tweed bronco on CL I've been using search all of Craigslist .got this one from Atlanta.real good price real fair shipping. bunny 7 April 25th, 2012, 07:49 PM Congrats on the new amp!!
they are so cool and simple, but such a sound, huh.
I may have to look around for another if my Kalamazoo 1 goes south on me.
Enjoy.
Stubee April 25th, 2012, 11:35 PM Boy, an MIA? I got my MIA used for $160 ages ago & it was a good price then. You done very well.
'One trick' a bit deceiving as mine has sounded great in all kinds venues. I have other amps but the PJ has had the play. Have fun!
vibrasonic April 25th, 2012, 11:59 PM Great amp , great price , great sound , you did REAL good. Congratz.
studio1087 April 26th, 2012, 07:29 AM Great amp.
You got a great deal.
Congratulations.
I love my PJ.
DaBender April 26th, 2012, 08:37 AM It's a good deal, but it'll be tough to beat the one I have now. I bought it a couple of years ago off CL for $150, including the Fender cover, the box it shipped in and a stand for it!

No doubt! I'm plenty happy with her but $150 straight up in addition to the cover & stand is pretty cool. Never had a cover for any of my amps... but probably could use a stand.
Well, I played her for a while last night with a few of my guitars and was happy with all. When I went to power her off, I noticed that one of the tubes wasn't glowing like the rest? The one all the way to the right?
Is it possible that the tube isn't working but the amp still sounds pretty good?
Was thinking about replacing all the tubes with new ones but was wondering if there is a consensus on what's the best combination? Any favs out there?
DaBender April 26th, 2012, 10:06 AM To be clear - I wasn't raining on your parade in the least, you got a good deal, and more importantly, have an amp that could really serve virtually any situation for less than many cork sniffers pay for a single pedal.
I've always retubed with complete sets from Eurotubes (JJs). He marks a balanced 12ax7 to use for the phase inverter, IIRC. I'd buy a new set and keep yours for spares.
Have fun.

No worries, didn't take it in any negative way whatsoever. Is there a URL that would point me to the correct JJs? I'm not very knowledgeable at all when it comes to tube amps (or much else for that matter) so I'd love a cheatsheet, if possible.
What about: these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Pro-Junior-Tube-Set-JJ-EL84-x2-12AX7-x2-/110758598650?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c9ba17fa)
Is that a good deal? What's a new set cost from GC?
DaBender April 26th, 2012, 11:02 AM Probably fine, this guy gives you some options and has been great to deal with -
