After researching a lot of speakers, I decided to use a Musician's Friend gift card to buy a 10" speaker for my PRRI. I surprised even myself by landing on the Ramrod, but I heard some great clips and I've liked the sounds that others have got from "british" speakers in blackface amps.
It is just flat amazing what a difference a speaker makes. I actually liked a lot of things about the voice of the Jensen, but was looking for more volume and bass response. WAY more volume with the Ramrod (94db Jensen to 100db Ramrod), MUCH improved bass response, and much more rock-approved distortion characteristic, all without sacrificing a very Fendery clean tone. I'm extremely happy so far! More than anything, the experience has reaffirmed my love for 10" speakers. When you get a muscular 10", I feel that you don't "miss out" on anything that a 12" provides, and I just love the character of 10's with their quick response and tight bass. I think I'll stick with 10"s from now on, and really encourage others to give (beefy) 10s a chance!
