Anyone else picking up 'Blunderbuss' today? I'm gonna swing by the record store after work and pick up a copy.

Edit: Thought I was posting in the Music To Your Ears forum. Please move if you can.

I'd like him to do a straight ahead Blues record. He didn't used to be my cup of Tea , but I've seen him in two documentries now and he is growing on me.
He is very original and different for sure.

+1 I've always wanted him to do the same.
If you haven't seen 'Under Blackpool Lights' you should check that out too. That's my favourite live performance he's done.

Never cared for him... even when he was a local musician.

I used to say the same thing about Clapton...

Jack's thing has always been punk+garage+classic rock+blues

I don't know the name of it , but its the one where he and Meg toured those really unheard of cities in Northern Canada. I really enjoyed it. Changed my whole opinion of him. Then of course the Loud movie with The edge and Jimi. He's out there but in a good way. I would like to see him do a Straight Blues disc with his twist on it. I think I would really dig that. Electric and Acoustic. Full band, not just a drummer........

Haven't listened to much, but I'm liking it so far. You can never go wrong with Jack White.

I also got the new Brendan Benson album as well, which is also great. If you haven't listened to his solo stuff, you really should.

Namedropping alert!

I'm from Detroit originally.

Knew Jack White before the Stripes got huge. Real nice guy, suprisingly tall, and shy. He seems quite a bit different now, but success will do that to you I guess.

My old girlfriend's little sister dated Brendan Benson. He seemed like a real douche.

Good music tho

What does this have to do with anything?

I'm drunk, that's all

Glad the new LP is good.

I miss Detroit

Mike Eskimo

We miss YOU. Come back...

I complain (a lot) but there's something about it.

Remember : as far as residents native to a city making music are concerned (as opposed to musicians who move to a city to do it) - Detroit's got it all over everywhere else.

Stood in line for a buddy today so he and his kid can see Jack at the Scottish Rites Cathedral in May.

First show sold out.

Second show ? 2:00pm on a Thursday afternoon.

Jack is wacky.

I saw them a bunch.

MOJO magazine gave Jack's record 5 stars and "Instant Classic" status.

Never heard any of his other stuff. I knew he did the White Stripes thing with his sister and the ....might get loud documentary.

It takes me a while to warm up to new things (still don't have a cell phone) but the tunes posted here are cool. I could for sure crank "I'm Shakin'" and bounce around the cab of my truck!

I love that he did "I'm Shaking'", such a great riff. I know the Little Willie John version mostly- if it makes one little hipster kid discover Little Willie John, that's fantastic, but it's also a really good cover.

His normal fuzz I believe is just a regular Big Muff. He doesn't use a Russian Muff or a vintage one or anything, just the plain $80 one.

Stopped by the Third Man Rolling Record Store yesterday. Picked up a live 7" from Alabama Shakes. I like a lot of the new White record. It's a little "busy" and "proggy" at times, but I like a lot of it. It's no White Stripes, but it's way beyond any of his super-group output. Moving in the right direction.

What a vehicle. It's a converted DHL truck. The back doors have round etched glass windows that look like records.

Cool. It wasn't there when I went. When I went there the door was locked and you had to buzz in. A voice came over the intercom and said "what's the secret password?"

"uh... Seventh son..."

"you got it. Come on in."

I'd like to think it was Jack, but prolly not.

Got the album this week end, the girlfriend wanted to buy it for me and I said lets listen to it first, she said no I'll buy it for you. Mistake, it's really hard to get past his vocal screeching to listen to the music, sigh!
I'll try again one acoustic song I like but the rest...
I really want to like him, I try, but he should try to meet me half way there

I've heard a few songs off his new album on the radio this week where it's been the "feature album". I don't mind it - he's definitely got a distinct signature sound... but I prefer his vibes to 9/10ths of the new radio fodder I usually hear.

Have lived with Blunderbuss for a while now and I'm growing to really like it.

Have to really, really disagree with you on the 'try hard' thing. I think he's precisely the opposite. It seems to come really easily to him. He's very prolific and has a distinctive sound that definitely harks back to what came before, but is very much his own.

I'm a big big fan, have been for years. In my opinion he's probably the most interesting maker of guitar-based music to achieve major success in the last 10 years.

But to each their own...

I personally really like the new album, I got it on vinyl when it came out. Nice bluesy rock songs with a bit of country mixed in, nothing over the top. I saw him live saturday night and it was great, he definetly feels his music and leaves it all on the stage. Oh, and he nows how to rock a telecaster which is always a plus.

Besides I would listen to blunderbuss 100 times a day before i would even think about turning on the radio to some top 40 station.
