Hi, I've got my trusty beaten up US Standard tele. I got it used and it came with SCN noiseless pickups. It's a great guitar and a trusted friend, but I want to make it the best it can be. It's an alder body with rosewood fretboard. I'm looking for a Keith Urban sort of vibe for this guitar.
I find the bridge gets a bit brittle in the top end and the neck can get a little mushy sounding. The amp I'm playing is made over here in Oz and is essentially based on a deluxe reverb fitted in a combo with a pair of Celestion Greenbacks.
I don't have a lot of experience with tele pickups, so I'll take any advice that I can.
Thanks in advance guys for your help and time.

If you want to stay noiseless, I'm a big fan of the Dimarzio AreaT or AreaHotT tele pickups.
Otherwise, my favorite conventional tele pickups, and very likely the best bang for the buck IMO, are the Fender Original Vintage Tele set...possibly known as American Vintage Tele the last few years. You can get them pretty cheap on eBay.
But you'll get loads of different recommendations when it comes to things like pickups...and you simply won't know whether or not you'll like them until YOU have them and play them in your guitar. Everyone is different and it really is a matter of making an educated guess and hoping.
In the meantime though, get out a screwdriver and experiment with the heights of the pickups you have now. Where the strings are in relation to the magnetic field makes a big difference and sometimes a millimeter difference can make bad pickups good (and vice versa).
But the SCN set isn't one I thought a lot of so I expect you might be getting something else sooner or later.

I believe Keith uses the EMG T-Style bridge(he doesn't have a neck or middle) in his main 40th Anniversary Tele. I haven't seen him playing it lately but that might be a good place to start.

Thanks for the responses guys. People have mentioned the texas specials to me before. I know Keith had an EMG strat pickup in the bridge position of his original Tele, but the tone I'm chasing is similar to his second 40th anniversary tele, which has the stock pickups. I guess I'm looking for a good solid tone with sweet highs as opposed to brittle, which is what the scn's have. I know that pickups respond differently in different guitars, so I'm just trying to avoid wasting too much money on swapping pickups How is the top end on Texas specials? Fender also do a no caster set I think, any experience with those?
Thanks again

Texes Specials?
Top end is/can be what ever you desire! ,I find that I have to lower the bridge pup on the high E a little to get the ballance for my taste, but it will screem if you want it too!!, you just need to play around with it, and it will give you what you want!
