This mornings flea market find. Two vintage Magnavox labeled Rola twelve inch 8 ohm speakers. Came with two baffleboards and some nice brown grillcloth. The code on them are 285(Rola) 6(year 56,66,76?) 38(week)
The magnet is not that big so I guess 15 watt max power each.
They sound excellent. I got them for $5 for the pair...not bad.
The one you see has a little tear I am fixing with elmers glue.

Great steal! I am hoping to locate some vintage Rola's myself to try. I have been eyeing up Ebay options but the freight to Canada...

They're '66. Ceramic magnets are a '60s thing, seldom seen on earlier speakers. Speaking of "seldom seen" I see that basket with an alnico magnet all the time in old organs. '66 Rola / Magnavox is cool. I see a ton of Magnavox stuff but that's a new one on me.

Five bucks for the pair is a screaming deal. I figure $15 each is cheap for anything I can use in a guitar amp and I'm a "thrifty Yankee"!

Fifteen watts each is about right. At five bucks for the pair I'd use 'em in a 40 watt Pro Reverb. Only hassle if you blow 'em is findin' another five buck pair.

By boothillamps (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/boothillamps) at 2012-04-18 Here's one in a hot rod Champ. It sounds fantastic. Super loud, responsive and duly handles the power without any complaints.

These old Rola 8's are much better sounding speakers than new Weber Sig 8's or Jensen 8 inch MOD's. (Perhaps mostly because they're so well broken in.)

1966 it is then, I was thinking 56 was a bit early and Rola was probably gone by 76...Not finding many amps just speakers and cabinets....
