Vintage??? Oh, please...

Once again it seems I have been sitting on a gold mine in vintage gear. Years ago, when I bought my first decent guitar, an LP copy a buddy wanted to sell, he threw in a crappy amp and a worn out National Fuzz-wah pedal. I used the pedal a lot when I was first learning, but got pretty tired of it even as a teenager. Jump ahead 30 years and I get to jonesing for a wah-pedal and decide to just fix up the old National.

Out of curiosity I checked ebay to see if there were any around for parts. Lo and behold, National waas bult by Shin-ei, which for some reason known only to god and gear collectors now seem to have some cachet. There are two on the 'bay, one for 250.00, one for 450.00!

Hope they get the price they're asking. Then I can set my crappy old vintage fuzz-wah next to my vintage DS-1 and my vintage TS-9. Oh, and don't forgot my vintage Arion phasor. I'm sure that must be worth a fortune by now, too!

Still amazing to me that the old junk that we couldn't wait to replace in the 60's and 70's are now collectors items and bring more than the "good stuff" that we replaced it with.

A year or so ago, I wasn't really sure why I managed to sell my Boss CS2 for twice what I paid for it.

NOW I'm kicking myself. And I'm 20 years old! Don't I have to screw everything else up BEFORE I kick myself?

I had my pedal board at work a while back. A younger guitar player took a look and complemented me on all the vintage pedals.

I told him they weren't vintage when I bought them.

I am strongly prefer "bootique" stuff, because you can get that old good design with right components, but without noise, old pots. Also they has standard powering, good LED etc. So, vintage stuff is nice for collectors and studio. But for gigs I prefer new one.

How about that? I've got a Fender Blender and a Big Muff I bought in the 70's gathering dust for the last 35 years. Still using the Vox wahwah I got back then.

...I've got a Fender Blender...gathering dust for the last 35 years.

Those have become enough of a hot commodity for Fender to RI them.

I happened across one at a music store about a year ago (actually I was spying it on a shelf), only to find out that it was being sold immediately after they got it - some guy offered them top dollar if a clean one could be found.

The Blender is pretty neat as far as some of those old "wacky fuzzes" go.

I got hold of one of those old 70's Ibanez fuzz's - in the early 80's the ones with the slider controls. The ones with the lurid black and red 'artwork'
Sounded like ....****. To me. At the time.
I wrecked it I'm sorry to say. Though it seemed like junk at the time.

They are (somehow) worth a pretty penny now. I got mine in a swap for an old Air Pistol.

I wonder how I'd feel about the sounds of that Ibanez Fuzz if I had it now.
I'm sure it was plain bad.
Hmm but is that now 'bad good' or 'bad bad' .. or 'bad terrible' .. ? ;)

Hah! I've got an old 70's National ME-240 wah/volume/siren/surf pedal.
No one's offering to buy mine...but I'm not selling anyway.

There used to be a pawnshop in Missoula, MT that I always checked out. I had 30.00 in my pocket and it came down to a choice between an old Silvertone head or a Siren/surf pedal. At any rate I left with the Silvertone. I've always kicked myself for not picking up the Siren/wah, too, but I just couldn't swing it.

The only thing "vintage" in my signal chain is me. At 56, the only gear I own that's older than me is my Gibson J 45. Will I live long enough to see my Dano ,DOD and Boss junk be called vintage ?

I've had lots of different pedals, but rarely bought them new so i didn't feel too bad if they didn't pan out.

My favorite is my parts CryBaby--the original pedal cost me $15.00 used in 1973. I also had an original Fender Blender that was $5.00 at a yard sale--I think I had it for about a month and gave it away, awful.
