Anybody have any experience/opinions of these (http://www.thomann.de/ie/kustomdefender_v15head.htm)?
I've been looking for some sort of inexpensive but useable amp to use at gigs where I'd not want to risk my 5E3 Deluxe (ie, with drunks and beer...) and as I've got a spare 1 by 12" cab this head could be the ticket.

Well, whatever it's like I'm going to find out. Just ordered one.

I had the 5H and loved it! Way more powerful than my other 5 watt amps. I sold it in hopes of finding a used 15H. They aren't that common since MF doesn't carry them and just recently blew out their 5H's. Looking forward to others opinions who have played them.

It sounds like it would fit the requirements well for you, Happy Future NAD!
Don't see much Kustom product around here except the S/S variety, will be interested to hear your thoughts when it arrives. Congrats.

Got it today...but unfortunately there's a fault and it has to go back.
I was able to try it out though, and it sounds great. Just what I wanted.
I ran it into a 1 by 12" cab I have with a Jensen C12n and with a variety of guitars it sounded great in a plug-in-and-play way. Good headroom, very responsive. Easy to get a good basic sound and the simple EQ controls (a switch giving an 'American or British bass response' option plus a simple 'tone' control) made it a cinch to dial in a comfortable EQ for any guitar.
And I've never heard a quieter amp, as in, absolutely no hint of any hiss through the speaker even with my ear against it.
It was OK on the 4w setting but on 15w there was a horrible loud buzz if there was nothing plugged in to the amp. But with a guitar plugged in the 15w setting was OK, except for an occasional buzz.
The shop (Thomann in Germany) said there's been no problems with them otherwise so I'll just get another one.
Although now I'm trying to decide whether to get another one of these or the combo version.
One thing though. I bought a new set of tubes along with it (assuming I'd need them since it came with Chinese ones) so I tried the new ones briefly just in case that was all the problem was. The tube sockets are attached to the circuit board and I had to be very careful because the board wasn't supported under them and flexed if I didn't support it myself with one hand...and the sockets were tight. Other than that it seemed really well made. Bit of a design overlook.
