Recommend me a decent wah

I need to upgrade from the built-in wah effect in my multi-pedal to do classic rock, funk, even a little (....*disco*....)

There are plenty of used crybaby's and vox's around, I've tried a couple at different shops but they seem kinda glitchy

Please click the link in my sig and have a listen to "The Letter". I use the pedal all the way through the song (playing rhythm) and it just sounds blah....especially when we go acapella 4-part harmonies right at the end (around 3:10).

That's the type of "whooka-chicka-whooka-chicka" effect that I need to sound a lot freakin better than it does here.

You know who's wah sound kills? Warren Haynes with Govt. Mule. That's what I'm after! Just don't know how to get there!

I would highly recommend any Onerr Wah pedals, I've played all the big name wahs, but nothing could match up to my Onerr Cryin' Wah, or my Onerr Fatboy.

Why not just use a standard dunlop crybaby wah? They go for $35 bucks on ebay and they're worn in (a good thing).

Nevermind I read that you find them "glitchy".

Morley is my pick. Might try a Behringer....very inexpensive. I have not tried them, but the other behringer effects I have are great. Might get lucky with wah. zzounds seems to have the best price on new ones that Ive saw.

Wilson Wah. Any of his are superb.

Definitely seems like a solid choice.

If you're on a tighter budget, I'd recommend seeking out a used BBE wah, they're great for the price. I had a Budda Bud wah for a short while and I actually prefered the BBE over it.

I googled them all...never heard of these brands before!
The Teese line looks like the real deal, but I might need some convincing to go that high price wise. I'll look some more at them if I can find some demos on You Tube. His list of artists seems to speak for itself.
The Wilson looks good too, but one of the big selling points seems to be the buffered output and I already have a Satchurator Drive that comes with a pad switch.
The Morley just takes up too much space.

Thanks for the posts and keep 'em coming

Here is a demo of my Teese Picture wah. You can hear the wah alone in the first part of the video, then I kick in a Xotic BB Preamp. Hope this helps.

I use a BBE wah, myself. I like it, it's more than decent. It's got a pretty good reputation for it's class/price range.

Two kinda curveball ideas for ya -
I also have the digitech EX7 expression factory. It's got two adjustabel wah models (crybaby and clyde), along with a bunch of other pretty cool and good sounding effects, and some drive models I don't bother with. It is buffered but I don't notice any adverse effects on my tone (I've tested with a TB loop). It has relatively short travel and like a lot of digital effects, does not run on typical 9v DC.

I'm pretty intrigued by the AMT japanese girl wah. It's tiny! Based on what little I've heard (burgs' demo) I'd love to swap the full size BBE for it.

I am pretty sure that when I watched Warrens gear tech take a, guitar mag interviewer through his rig, they showed that his wah is just a standard cry baby.
I love his sound too.
I also love my ”crybaby classic”.
It has true bypass, red fasel inductor, and ac power input...all stock.
I have had the vox before and this one sounds better than that one and many others I have tried.
Hope that helps!

I have an older Teese Picture Wah. I had a question about powering it with a One Spot. I called the shop and Mr. Teese gave me an in-depth, unhurried answer. Talk about customer service...

That's what I'm talking about! Thanks for posting that....I swear if I had that pedal the band would be on my case about it b/c I'd find a way to use it on every song!

I have a Digitech rp200 that has 2 or 3 programmable wahs but none of them sound this good in all the positions...some have good bass, some have a better sweep range, but I can't combine them into one decent sound.

I've tried a few Cry Baby's and a Vox and they sounded pretty awesome, but then I noticed the switch didn't always come on or off the way it should and I figured that was why people got rid of them in the 1st place. Most stores won't give you much of anything when you trade in a pedal so I figured the previous owners just wanted to be rid of them.

Maybe I just had a couple bad ones....I'll keep looking.

I'm falling in love with those Teese's though!

very very cool....oops! two month wait time? I'm not used to that...never ordered anything custom hand made before.

Might be worth the wait

What is a glitchy wah?

The Vox v847A sounds great but the physical pot gets worn out. I sprayed some contact cleaner/ lubricant in mine.

A total curve ball, but tweakable beyond belief and built like a cinder block

My search for the "perfect" wah ended a few years ago when I bought one - I have yet to hear a recorded wah sound it cannot reproduce, from Shaft wackawacka to foaming-at-the-mouth howling at the moon...!

i tried two cry babies and a vox at two different stores....all used, seemed in good condition though

all on power supply and decent cables going in and out

but all three had problems turning off and on sometimes (sitting on thin carpet over concrete floor), also random volume drop-outs.

Otherwise the tones were far better than what I have now. Just didn't get a warm fuzzy.

I used to own a Cry Baby that had this weird sort of starship enterprise looking footpedal growing off the front of it that would turn on a fuzz circuit...anybody remember those?

See if you can find a Colorsound supa wah wah or plain wha wha from the 70's on eBay. I've got one and the sweep on those things is amazing. Hendrix a go go!

I just bought a Wilson Wah 12 position vinatge spec. Awesome, hands down the best new wahs. I wouldn't be surprised if Warren Haynes has used one.

there's a couple Wilsons on eBay.... no waiting there. Well, less of a wait anyway. Might bid on one soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions though, there's tons of great stuff out there I never even knew existed
