I picked up an older (2003 I think) US made Taylor Big Baby today... great guitar. The top has darkened nicely on this one, even the windmill pick marks left by an over enthusiastic previous owner are dark.

here is the crappy GC pic, I'll post more tomorrow.

The big baby is probably my favorite acoustic guitar, it plays so much like an electric it just feels so nice. The sound is good too but it's nothing compared to the feel IMHO. Congrats!

Congrats on your new baby :) I'm always impressed on how good it sounds for such a basic guitar. I had a GS mini and compared them and decided to sell the mini as I found the BB sounded better to my ears.

I had both bigbabytaylor and gsmini; returned the bbt and kept the gs mini because the mini sounded better to me.

Thanks guys, its a great guitar (I've owned much higher priced guitars), plus, if it ever needs a neck reset, piece of cake (my other guitar is an Esquire).

Here's a better pic.

The top looks cool. Congratulations. My Big Baby sits out on a stand next to our piano. I play it every day. It's my grab and play acoustic.

I have several acoustics that cost more but I think that the Big Baby is an absolute winner.

John, I agree with you about the Big Baby, I've owned some really nice guitars and this guitar sounds great for the money and the feel is fantastic (as good as guitars costing 10X as much). When I bought this one, I also tried some high priced Taylors and I preferred the sound of the Big Baby over the 314. The 314 might have more detailed frequency range, but the BBT had more bottom end (the BBT is 9 years old, so a seasoned top might have been a factor).

I'll have to take the BBT to the local guitar store and A/B it against a new one.

When I got the BBT, I thought it was just going to be a temporary acoustic fix until I could get a better acoustic... now I am thinking the BBT will be my main acoustic.

I have a 2005 Big Baby and have no complaints. As has been mentioned, it's neck is slick and has low action, almost an electric guitar feel. The tone has gotten great with age. It sounded at least as good as guitars costing more than twice as much when new.
I went over last week and tried the GS Mini and while it is a fine guitar with great projection for it's size, I would NOT trade the Big Baby for it. I have believed since I first saw it advertised, that Taylor was trying to throw the Big Baby "under the bus" with the introduction of the GS Mini and still believe it.
This is a 15/16 sized guitar and NOT a 3/4 or 7/8 as so many write. By look and measure, the depth is less than a full size dreadnaught. That is it. The "Baby" Taylor is not in the same league and should not be confused with it as it often is. Enjoy it. It's a great guitar. Glad you got one before it disappears in the future. Anne

Yes, the size is why I gave consideration to the BBT in my recent hunt for an acoustic. It's not much smaller than a full-sized dread, but just enough that I can play comfortably for long periods, something I can't do on a regular sized dread.

I was amazed by the new one and blown away by the old one.
