Reverse rolls on guitar using hybrid picking ?

Hey gang, I realise this question (or similar) has probably been asked before, but I could'nt be bothered searching the forum, so I'm just going to go ahead and ask anyway :lol:
My question is if you guys can suggest some alternative (easy) ways to perform reverse banjo style rolls on guitar using hybrid picking.
I've already got a good handle on how to do them without a pick, and I've also been practicing using a pick the "Danny Gatton" way (as demo'd in his Licks and Tricks video), but was wondering if there are any other (easier and efficient) ways to do them.
I've already spent hours practicing them Danny's way and it does seem the most practical, but I'm not progressing as fast I'd like to be.
so maybe there's another way ???? ........... (or is there) ?

Yeah, I'm assuming Gattons approach is probably the most practical.
(btw, other than the 213, the others are forward rolls - just saying :lol::wink:

I do it like Gatton, can't think any other way would be any easier.

Practice more. If you're not, use a metronome. Start slow, do a pattern for 2 solid minutes. Bump up the tempo a couple bpm's, repeat, repeat, repeat. Tomorrow, start the same sequence a few clicks slower than where your fastest tempo was yesterday...repeat. Only go as fast as you can play cleanly and evenly in time to the click.

Gatton's way is how I do it, and I sucked when I first tried it. So keep doing it. Then keep doing it. You'll become comfortable with it eventually.

Same goes with almost anything to do with guitar. Just do work. There aren't any tricks. Pros are better than you and me because they practice (or have practiced) harder, better, and more often.

check out some banjo tutorials on rolls...

learn some rolls there, then take them to the tele...using them on different voicings of a chord...

I learned them from Danny himself almost 40 years ago, but I still remember how difficult it was to get them going. The ONLY thing I found that worked was to play them SLOWLY and perfectly: if you can't play it slowly, you can't play it fast. I did eventually learn both forward and reverse rolls and I use 'em every chance I get. ;-) CS

Simply....(as Gatton demo's)
(forward)
pick down, middle up, ring up - repeat
(backward)
middle up, pick up, pick down - repeat

for me, the only tricky part is ensuring the the upstroke with the pick (during reverse rolls) is precise

Yes I agree - I'm getting better all the time.
(Just sometimes wonder if I'm wasting my time trying to reinforce a reduntant technique).
I'm a typical lazy guitarist always looking for shortcuts :lol:
