Thanks for that clip. That's a superb version I'd never heard before.

And the photos are excellent.

This song has always had great appeal to me. The song is working simultaneously on so many levels, and from a vocalist standpoint, it is in Neil's sweet spot.

This number, if belonging to an "average" artist, would be the best or in the top ten if there were 10 good ones. With Neil, an amazing song like this is just another one of scores and scores of them. Long may he run.

Well, you are the only one that posted up. Maybe Neil Young isn't as popular on this forum as I thought. Personally I have always been a fan. Coming to think of it, I have only ever seen Neil Young play a Telecaster once, and that was on the 'Live at Red Rocks' DVD. That was back in 2000. Maybe that's the reason.

Regarding your...from a vocalist standpoint...I totally agree with you. This song embodies everything that is great about Neil.

Great song from a great album and his live acoustic sound is always fantastic.

Thank you F.F. for that one!Freedom was an album I didnīt buy.At that point in time he had made about seven albums that didnīt chart during his feud with Geffen.Watching Neil Young for the first time on TV was the closest thing to The Beatles first appearance on Swedish TV in `63 for me.Iīm usually over at the DIY forums but have started to look on the "Today"section.Iīm a huge admirer of Youngs work and I think I can do a fair imitation of his guitar tone(wishful thinking).Thank you again for posting this clip!

I sometimes listen to Neil really heavily.

Right now, with a number of other musicians leaving us, I've been listening to some other things (sometimes not recordings, the Band songs, Bee Gees songs just come in and make themselves welcome and play in my head!) because there's no other way.

Seeing Neil get more and more respect over time steadies me, and it gives me a sense that my taste even as a kid was for the timeless things. I think it is a major blessing, to have had a choice which major concert was the first one I insisted my parents let me attend, and to have the Buffalo Springfield on the bill and own the concert. I'd be rich if I had a dollar for every time I mentioned the Buffalo Springfield and the other person in the conversation said "Who?". :^)

Maybe Neil Young isn't as popular on this forum as I thought.

I share your sincere hope that this is not so.
OK. he is not everyones cup of tea, but everyone needs to take a good few sips.

Great song by the way - thanks for posting.

He is a selfish, whiney voiced, overrated, and self absorbed jerk.

I do like some of his music, but his social and political preaching turns me off.

I learned to play guitar by going through the Decade songbook many years ago. Last time I saw him was on the Greendale tour. Pulled out a tele for one of the last tunes. Think it was Everybody Knows This is Nowhere (if I recall correctly.) Big, fat, honking bark on that tele. Fantastic.

Yeah,I also have my "Neil Weeks".The first Young album me and my girlfriend owned was "After The Goldrush"which we bought of an American exchange student. Then I managed to borrow two Springfield albums and learnt the ones Young had recorded by himself like Expecting to Fly.My girlfriend taught me "The Needle and the Damage done"She was (and is still) a much better guitarist than me with a very good taste in music.Like you,the artists I liked as a youngster are still respected for their music.Thank you for the conversation and good night!

Beautiful song.

The entire "Freedom" album is brilliant. One of the best "returns to form" in rock history. The follow up, "Ragged Glory", with Crazy Horse is brilliant too.

+1 - Freedom and Ragged Glory are both amazing, yet quite different from each other.

BTW If anyone is learning to play guitar, playing along to Ragged Glory for a few months is a great way to develop.

Chuck, I used to meet many, many people who voiced this basic opinion. With each passing year, more and more fall by the wayside. The body of Neil's work is just eating his detractors up and spitting them out. Who amongst the big sellers still doesn't like him, Toby Keith maybe? Getting almost to the point, you have to admire people who still insist he hasn't got much - at least they're consistent in their mindset.

My thought is, you basically have a choice in music: Reflect too much what the other musicians are doing (what they sound like) or run the risk of being seen as self absorbed/self motivated/self centered. If I had the deep reservoir of songs ideas from within that Neil has, I rather doubt you'd see much of me on guitar forums. What is he supposed to do, sign autographs and never mind about recording all those songs that possess him?

Well I don't chose my favorite musicians by their non-musical whatever and "After the Gold Rush" is one of my favorite albums ever. I've been listening to it since it debuted.

He is fine in my book.

Nice song in the link BTW.

Thanks for posting...

Neil has been, and still is one of the most prolific songwriters in the last 4 to 5 decades. I for one appreciate the fact that he has the balls to speak out, not to mention that he still pushes the envelope with his albums. I may not like everything that he does, but I do in fact like most.

I'm a big fan, too. He's got so many tunes that I love, and quite a few that I don't. That doesn't diminish him in any way, either. I've always admired his "go your own way" attitude toward the music biz.
