light blues overdrivenarativesoul April 17th, 2012, 03:18 PM hi i am looking for a light blues overdrive. something similiar to buddy guy sound hemingway April 17th, 2012, 03:28 PM I'm really happy with the Behringer blues OD - great sound and cheap as chips. It's a quarter of the price of the Boss. Subtle, bluesy, tubey. Love it. Harray April 17th, 2012, 04:12 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5fXapM7uJE I wish i'd seen this when I was looking for an overdrive. I think Buddy Guy uses a hand wired tubescreamer and the natural overdrive from old tweed amps. narativesoul April 17th, 2012, 04:29 PM yeah thats what i want just a bit of tweed dirt narativesoul April 17th, 2012, 04:41 PM think any danelectro will work TeleToTheRain April 17th, 2012, 04:56 PM a Bad Monkey will get you there bossking7 April 17th, 2012, 07:22 PM VFE Blues King. Buddy uses a Bassman, so you could get a emulator. bossking7 April 17th, 2012, 07:23 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5fXapM7uJE I wish i'd seen this when I was looking for an overdrive. I think Buddy Guy uses a hand wired tubescreamer and the natural overdrive from old tweed amps. The only pedal Buddy currently uses is his signature wah. He puts the treble on his Bassman on 10. And gets his drive from that. narativesoul April 17th, 2012, 07:34 PM yeah i know he doesnt use any real effects. so i am trying to get a pushed bassman sound i guess DivadYug April 17th, 2012, 07:39 PM With my Green Rhino I play dirt country and light blues! telepath April 17th, 2012, 08:01 PM Light OD? Lordy theres just .. loads ...! Have a look for Youtube demos on some of these Mad Profesor Sweet Honey OD Mk1 Marshall Bluesbreaker (not MkII, so would have to be used) - or the CMATMods Butah / JHS Morning Glory are current BB clones. or the MHP 72 degrees OD 'tube demo by Burgerman666 Soooo .. many. Thus - by asking - you just end up with a well meant list ! OK - go here (if you have not already) : http://proguitarshop.com/video-reviews Choose 'Overdrive' from the drop down list, and enjoy a few hours narrowing down your choice. narativesoul April 17th, 2012, 08:04 PM i am looking at a pastrami overdrive gwjensen April 17th, 2012, 08:50 PM My current favorite for the last three weeks has been a Boss SD-1 with the C6 diode clipped off (thank you .011). Smooth and juicy. They're only about $40 new and you can find used for $20. Its a TS sound without the bass loss and a more balanced, less midcentric tone. Love it. Axis29 April 17th, 2012, 09:13 PM Box of Rock, Distortron, Formula No 5, Les Luis, uh... What other tweed/Jtm45 pedals are out there? Crank up the treble or twist the tone knob clockwise and you should be getting closer to that Bassman with treble on 10 setting. narativesoul April 17th, 2012, 09:24 PM basically just looking for something cheap to give me a bit of overdrive for now Chiogtr4x April 17th, 2012, 09:38 PM basically just looking for something cheap to give me a bit of overdrive for now What is your amp? and your guitar? narativesoul April 17th, 2012, 09:44 PM well i have alot of guitars, mostly teles and strats and i have a champ 30 amp. it does have a drive but i dont care for it Chiogtr4x April 17th, 2012, 10:00 PM well i have alot of guitars, mostly teles and strats and i have a champ 30 amp. it does have a drive but i dont care for it OK here is something specific, but it works for me on just about any Fender amp, I have used If you want a (quick method) sound similar to what I think you are after, which to me is one in which a clean/brilliant Fender tone (which you will get from just about any Fender amp, Tube or SS) is still in the foreground, with that EQ left intact, with just a little breakup- you cannot go wrong with a Boss Blues Driver: Level at NOON, Gain and Tone around 11:00 clock (tweak to taste) Turn the pedal ON and leave it ON! With the Blues Driver setup in this way the sound will have a fair amount of breakup with some loose distortion, when your guitar volume is all the way up. It won't really be thick or saturated. But turn your guitar down and this will all clean up, so you can manage clean and dirt all from your guitar, w/o kicking on a pedal (as it's alread ON) I just find it remarkable this way. If you need more volume with say your guitar only 1/2 way up (to keep it clean here) just either turn up amp volume or Level on the Blues Driver- leave the other controls alone. It's just a great tool to give me good "Fender breakup" at any amp volume. The BD-2 basically becomes the amp for me Stratburst April 17th, 2012, 10:50 PM i am looking at a pastrami overdrive The Danelectro pedals are great for the $$$ but I don't know how they hold up to regular gigging. Depending on your budget, I'd either suggest the Digitech Bad Monkey, the CM-2 tube overdrive (a more upscale BM) or the Way Huge Green Rhino. Enaitz April 18th, 2012, 02:41 AM My only overdrive is a Marshall Bluesbreaker II, I compared it to the Bluesbreaker I and the Tube Screamer TS-808, and I liked more the BB2, which is the cheapest of them all (in Madrid goes new for 54 €), is widely available and comes with an included boost. It's not a transparent overdrive (for this just go for the Bluesbreaker I) but it colours the sound in a velvety and warm way I love, and it's a very versatile overdrive. uriah1 April 18th, 2012, 07:52 AM I would suggest a red snapper. One of the ony pedals I have tried that really can clean up a nasty neck p/u. narativesoul April 18th, 2012, 08:27 AM well i wont really be giging so the durability is not to much an issue narativesoul April 18th, 2012, 08:38 AM also looked at joyo vintage overdrive |
