Drums and Drum looping live [Archive] - Telecaster Guitar Forum

In my current worship band we currently have a guitarist playing drums. He would like to get out from behind them and play guitar. I play guitar currently but wouldn't mind doing pads, sound guy work and triggering drum loops.

I've never done this and don't know where to begin. But here is what I have.

Line 6 UX1 (simple interface, has line outs to go to PA system)
AKAI MPK Mini - USB (has drum pads for easy drum triggering)
Laptop
Mackie Tracktion Ultimate Bundle (Drum software included)

I would like to make premade drum loops, then be able to switch between each one on the fly vs. having the whole song in one continuous pre-recorded track. This would allow me to switch between Intro-verse-prechorus-chorus-bridge, whenever the band leader feels he/she wants to. Just like a regular drummer pretty much.

Can it be done? Cheap?
