everclear1567 April 16th, 2012, 03:51 PM So after sanding down to the raw wood I realized I have a two piece body :( no blonde finish for me. What color do you think I should paint this? I want a vintage look! Keep in mind I am a beginner, also do I need wood filler?

rip_topaz April 16th, 2012, 04:39 PM I'd still go blonde.
Bud Veazey April 16th, 2012, 06:00 PM I spray a lot of transparent finishes on a lot of two piece bodies. You might want to do a little more sanding around the string holes, but otherwise I think blonde would look good on this one. It't not book matched, but the grain looks pretty good on both sides.
waparker4 April 16th, 2012, 06:08 PM I just covered the pic with two fingers to simulate the covering from the pickguard and I could hardly notice the seam. Those deluxe pickguards are gigantic.
The difference in grain is more noticeable without the pickguard covering 85% of the right hand side, IMO.
Tele Fan April 16th, 2012, 06:11 PM A clear coat would look good too.
everclear1567 April 16th, 2012, 08:13 PM That's true, I never forgot the pick guard takes up a massive amount of wood. Hmm
wayloncash April 16th, 2012, 09:00 PM i like black and red
Wally April 19th, 2012, 07:12 PM The most valuable TEles/Broadcasteres in existence have 2 or 3 piece bodies.....not one-piece....under those transparent finishes. That said, the grain of those two pieces really does stand out in their differences, I agree.
You coudl go with a translucent butterscotch, and the grain woudl not be so 'in your face' as with a transparent finish. As you sprayed the butterscotch, you could decide when the grain was obscure enough for your eye.
Dan C April 20th, 2012, 01:57 PM I do love blonde but... Gotta be Surf Green & Tort for me, think it would really look unique and IMO has a vintage vibe

It's the only color I spray.
(because I'm scared to spray anything else)

good one....IF you can get a good finish spraying black, you can spray any color you want....with the exception of metallics or pearls, I suppose. For the 'simple' finishes, black is the most difficult to do properly---meaning well.
DoodlySquat April 20th, 2012, 06:20 PM You could paint it Olympic white or maybe Olympic white with a touch of Olympic white.
coolpool April 22nd, 2012, 11:12 PM Trans sherwood green would look good too, I think....

Translucent metallic? ....hhhmmmm..
Flakey April 23rd, 2012, 12:38 AM Many fender bodies in the 1950s were two and sometimes 3 piece bodies and were blonde, butter scotch or Mary Kaye white. Pore fill with a walnut filler and spray until desired about of grain is present or hidden. I say Mary Kaye White with a tortoise guard. BTW Mary Kaye has nothing to do with the cosmetic company it refers to an musician in the 1950s that went by that name.
